The successful candidate will provide web site development and front and back end programming for instrument calibration and data distribution websites including

  • Design, develop, and test user-friendly Web applications, translate user requirements into robust and consumer-friendly Web applications, and contribute creative ideas and development techniques.
  • Maintain existing PHP- & MySQL as well as CMS web applications.
  • Create data plots, graphs, etc. dynamically from data bases of calibration parameters.

Requirements

  • BS or higher in Computer Science, Information Systems, Web Design/Development or comparable degree/equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of commercial or government Web application development programming experience 
  • Working knowledge of Web Content Management systems such as Drupal 
  • Up-to-date knowledge of best practices in web application security
  • Solid knowledge of secure coding practices with proven capability of implementing these practices for dynamic access to data bases to prevent SQL injection or user hijacking of data.
  • Solid track record delivering successful Web- based applications through the full product life cycle
  • Excellent PHP skills with a minimum of 2 years experience using PHP or comparable language to create dynamic and static pages from database input. 
  • Working knowledge of MySQL (4 or 5), PostgreSQL or equivalent database design and administration, SQL, and query optimization
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated appreciation for user experience and user interface design
  • Ability to learn quickly, self-direct, establish timelines, and deliver products within deadlines
  • Experience documenting Web site designs (using flowcharts & wireframes)

Desirables

  • Knowledge of Apache HTTPD server configuration
  • Web server security training (GWUX/GSIP, CISSP, or equivalent)
  • Experience in user interface design, usability testing, information architecture development, and/or user experience design
  • Experience with off-the-shelf Content Management Systems
  • Experience with web services (REST and SOAP)
  • Understanding of Ajax and similar Web 2.0 technologies
  • Experience working independently to develop and maintain state of the art websites using Drupal working under the direction of instrument engineers, scientists, and programmers
