MOLC Serves the Homeless
Under the Basic Needs Program, MOLC provides services to homeless individuals and families via outreach in communities and through partnerships with homeless shelters. On January  15, MOLC sponsored "VIP Shopping Day" at the warehouse for residents of shelters to select clothing. On Martin Luther King Day in January, MOLC staff and volunteers participated in a "Day of Service," by serving soup and sandwiches in the organization's warehouse. On February 12, MOLC decorated the warehouse for Valentine's Day and served a spaghetti dinner to homeless individuals and families. Participants had the opportunity to share there insights on love.

In addition to providing clothing, food, toiletries, etc., MOLC provides information and referral to resources in the community.

10 Honored for Completing Workforce Development/
Life Skills Program

There was standing room only at the January 8, 2016 MOLC graduation ceremony where 10 people were honored and celebrated for completing the Workforce Development/Life Skills Program in the presence of family and friends.

In partnership with Giant Food, this program uses an evidence-based curriculum to provide employment training for unemployed and/or hard-to-place individuals. Training includes career planning, interpersonal relations, customer service, basic work skills, resume and job application preparation, interview preparation and life skills. Program participants have an opportunity to become employed at Giant Food upon graduating.

Prince George's Councilmember Andrea C. Harrison, who was the keynote speaker, congratulated the graduates, and said, "This is a very special day because of your willingness to be responsible. You hung in there and invested the time to improve your own life and the lives of your family members. I'm glad you didn't quit. You've proven to yourself that you have the ability to meet life's challenges and overcome them. And that's more than anyone can ask of you. While this marks the end of your program here . . . you know that today your new journey begins and the possibilities of whatever you decide to do are endless. So we see hope, determination, and courage and these are all of the qualities that each of us need for a great future."

Following her remarks, Harrison provided each graduate with a certificate of achievement from the Prince George's County Council.

Winston Wilkinson, brought greetings from the office of Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, and said that the governor's office is working to determine how they can provide more support to MOLC's program. "There's so much hidden talent in the community," Wilkinson said, while also congratulating the graduates on their "perseverance, focus and determination."

Graduates of the program are as follows:

Safeway Representative Receives Founder's Award

Craig Muckle, manager of public affairs and government relations for Safeway, received the 2015 Founder's Award during MOLC's Annual Mitten Mixer.

The Mitten Mixer collects donations of mittens, gloves, and other winter accessories, which are donated to MOLC clients.

MOLC Chairman Dr. Douglas E. Edwards said that the Safeway store at Addison Plaza in Prince George's County has provided significant support to the organization by donating food products, which MOLC provides to clients in need. "It is our privilege to recognize Craig for the great work that Safeway is doing in our community," said Edwards. "Safeway cares about the community," Muckle said. "Giving product to the Mission of Love Charities is a very small thing we can do. We want to be a part of the community and serve people in need."
