[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Sep. 8 focus group for IMCW visioning process

Hi friends,

Hope you're enjoying the long weekend!

I want to let you know of a special focus group that will be held for members of our sangha on Sunday, September 8. Our regularly scheduled gathering will end at 7:15pm, and folks are invited to stay for an hour-long focus group to discuss the future of IMCW (Insight Meditation Community of Washington DC).

What is it?

IMCW is going through a process over the next several months to look to the future and envision what kind of organization and community we would like to be. They are talking to many diverse groups of people - including our Downtown Dharma group - to explore and learn about their experiences and hopes in the following 3 areas:

  • Their meditation practice,

  • Their participation in this class or group, and

  • Their participation in the larger IMCW community.

Your voice is a critical and helpful source of information that will inform IMCW's visioning process. We hope you will join us!

Focus Group session details:

Date: Sunday, September 8, 2019

Time: 7:15 to 8:15pm (immediately after our regular gathering, which starts at 6pm)

Location: Flow Yoga (1450 P St NW)

You are welcome to join us right at 7:15pm, even if you're not able to join the earlier sangha.

If you have any questions or thoughts about this process, please do not hesitate to reach out to the IMCW Facilitator's Visioning Team at visioning@imcw.org, or to me directly.

Best regards,

Vince Lampone

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] This Sunday at Flow: The Path Beyond Polarization

Greetings Friends,

This Sunday from 6:00 to 7:30 pm we will gather at Flow Yoga, 1450 P St NW. Just a reminder that the front door closes at 6:05 so to join the class, you'll pretty much need to be on time.

Not only in our politics, but in so many aspects of our lives, it seems as if we have but two choices, left or right, for or against, yielding or resisting, involved or detached, give up or go on. Yet the Buddha identified what he called the Middle Way, a path which is not a compromise between opposites but instead a transcendent third option that recognizes yet refuses to align with either. This Sunday we'll explore the liberating power of the Middle Way and how we can access it in any given moment of what can seem like impossible choice.

Our meeting space is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible.Cushions and back jacks will be provided and we can go over how to make those arrangements comfortable for those of you who are used to sitting in chairs. If you are able to come early to help set up, that would be most appreciated.

I look forward to seeing you on Sunday at Flow!

With appreciation,
Kristin

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Supporting a Sangha Member

Dear Sangha,

One of our members is currently undergoing chemotherapy and could use our support sustaining herself during this process. If you are available to prepare some high-protein vegetarian meals for her over the next two months, please add your name to this form. You can bring the food to our Sunday night sits or you drop it off at her apartment. Once you've added your name to the form, I'll follow up with you to coordinate delivery.

Anything that is legume or tofu based would be greatly received, we just ask that you not include any cilantro or raw onion. She's also low in sodium so salty dishes are A-OK.

With love,

Devin

Re: [Downtown Dharma Listserve] Sit tomorrow Aug 4th?

Hi all

Just curious if there is a sit happening tomorrow? I'm visiting from out of town (I lived in DC some years ago and joined this sangha) and would love to join if a sit is planned.

Thanks
Candice~

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Re: Meditation workshop for activists, organizers, and the politically engaged

Hi friends, just letting you know that I've switched this to a donation-based event with a suggested donation of $10-15 the day of. A donation isn't required to attend. Turns out, it's hard to convince politically engaged folks to take a moment to slow down and breathe. If you plan on coming, please register at: jeremymohler.blog/2019workshop

Take care,
Jeremy
