[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Join Us Sunday Dec. 2: Antidotes to Anger

Dear friends,

Please join me this Sunday, December 2, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 in the Community Room at the Potter's House (1658 Columbia Rd NW) to meditate and explore powerful antidotes to anger from Buddhist teachers.

There will be a period of formal meditation (with optional mindful movement), a short talk, a chance to play with this topic (and I do mean play), and chances for quiet reflection and optional sharing.

Chairs are available. If you'd like to bring your own sitting gear, please do. And if you'd like to help set up, please arrive ten to fifteen minutes early. This meeting space is wheelchair accessible.

With care,
Em Morrison

Hi all,
My roommate is taking a brief break from DC so I'm looking for someone to share my two bedroom apartment this coming January through March. It would be lovely to live with another meditator.

Your November 2018 Mission Insider Newsletter is here!

November 2018
On Behalf of Mission of Love Charities, Inc. we hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Holiday. November has been a great month for our organization as we were able to provide Turkeys to more than 700 families. On November 17, 2018 Mission of Love Charities was at the First Annual Gold's Gym 5K Turkey Trot at Ritchie Station where approximately 450 turkeys were distributed. On November 19, 2018 we distributed 280 turkeys and fixings to low-income preregistered individuals/families at our Warehouse, our goal was 250 but thanks to additional contributions from BJ's at Ritchie Station and Senator Joanne C. Benson we were able to surpass our goal.

HOLIDAY EVENTS
Mission of Love Charities, Inc. will be distributing more than 300 Toys to low-income children on December 20, 2018. In order to meet our goal we are asking for Toy Donations and details can be found in the Flyer below. We will also have our first Holiday Teen Girl Shop on December 20, 2018 from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.

If you know of any families in need that would benefit from both events please distribute this information.

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Tomorrow Evening at Potters House: The Paradox of Acceptance

Greetings Friends,

I am looking forward to being with you again this Sunday evening, 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the Potter's House (1658 Columbia Rd, NW) for the gathering of our Downtown Dharma Sangha.

One of the most powerful but also challenging and often confusing teachings in mindfulness is the invitation to allow things to be just as they are, to accept our reality. After a 25 to 30 minuted meditation in community, we'll investigate the practice of acceptance as both a response to difficulty and an essential step on the path to authentic power.

I look forward to exploring this topic with you on Sunday! If your schedule allows you to arrive early to assist in setting up, that would be most appreciated.

With appreciation,
Kristin

10% Happier is kicking into full gear on recruiting for a Meditation Producer – job description below – I'm thinking there may be people in your orbit who could be a fit. Does anyone come to mind?

We're open to relocation to Boston (where we are) for the right candidate, so don't hesitate to think about folks in other geographies.

THANKS!
Dan

P.S. Please feel free to share the application link widely.

--------------- Job Description ---------------

Meditation Producer for 10% Happier

The Role:

As a Meditation Producer, you'll work collaboratively with our team (including guiding teachers Joseph Goldstein and Sharon Salzberg and 10% Happier co-founder Dan Harris of ABC News) to guide the creation of, and deliver world-class content on meditation & mindfulness.

Help people make the most of their minds, while challenging yours along the way.

Note: This role is all about working with 10% Happier teachers to create content in their voice, not about creating meditation content in *your* voice (even though you may be a qualified teacher!)

Your Ideal Experience:

* 6+ years of personal experience with meditation, a robust personal practice, and deep familiarity and curiosity with the intellectual scaffolding of meditation and contemplative practice.

* Formal training in teaching/facilitating meditation, either through a secular training program or a spiritual lineage.

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] This Sunday at Potter's House

Dear friends,

Please join me this Sunday, November 18, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 in the Community Room at the Potter's House (1658 Columbia Rd NW) to meditate and explore the Buddhist concept of anatta, or the absence of an abiding self, and to talk about what it's like to get together (or not get together) with family over the holidays.

Are you ready for Thanksgiving? Do you ever feel like you need to prepare yourself for seeing certain relatives? We'll talk about the ways people "push our buttons" and trigger our narratives, and explore how a concept as esoteric as anatta might be helpful. For folks who don't feel comfortable sharing confidentially in a small-group setting, there will be an alternative activity (with pens and markers) available.

Chairs are available. If you'd like to bring your own sitting gear, please do. And if you'd like to help set up, please arrive ten to fifteen minutes early. This meeting space is wheelchair accessible.

Looking forward to seeing you!

Eva Talmadge

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Event Tonight..

Friends,

Tonight (11/7), Tara Brach will be talking more at length than she ever has publicly, about extending compassion to all animals. This is big and will likely have a ripple effect.

If you are able to be there live, please go! It's from 7:30-9 at the River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 6301 River Road (Corner of Whittier Blvd. & River Road), Bethesda, MD.

I believe it is also being streamed live through Facebook. You can access that at: https://m.facebook.com/tarabrach

With love,
Ali

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Tomorrow Evening at Potters House

Greetings Friends,

I'm looking forward to being with you again this Sunday evening, 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the Potter's House (1658 Columbia Rd, NW).

After a 25 to 30 minuted meditation in community, we'll conclude our exploration of one of the most transformative, yet challenging, teachings in Buddhist psychology. The "five aggregates" provide insights into the continuous, ever-present processes of experience. Investigated with compassionate awareness, they offer a powerful tool in the development of unshakable well-being.

I look forward to exploring this topic with you on Sunday! If your schedule allows you to arrive early to assist in setting up, that would be most appreciated.
