[Downtown Dharma Sangha Listserv] Registration now open for Nov 11-12 Insight Dialogue non-residential retreat in DC

Hi friends,

I'm happy to share that registration is now open for a Nov 11-12 Insight Dialogue weekend retreat in DC. This will be led by Dave Leggatt, who joined our sangha earlier this year to introduce us to this practice of relational meditation.

This will be a small retreat, and we expect a wait list. If you're interested, I encourage registering early. More here:

  • Location: Tenleytown DC
  • Format: A mix of silent meditation, teachings on the six Insight Dialogue guidelines, and mindful dialogue (where you will put these teachings into direct practice in pairs and small groups)
  • Day & Time: Sat, Nov 11: 9:30am-5:30pm, & Sun, Nov 12: 9:30am-4:30pm.
    • The six ID guidelines build sequentially upon each other, so full attendance is required.
    • There will be a break for lunch both days; you're welcome to bring your own or visit one of many spots nearby.
Warmly,
Vince

[Downtown Dharma Sangha Listserv] This Sunday with Downtown Dharma: The Narrow Gate

Greetings Dear Sangha,

With all of its stressors, just getting through the day seems to demand so much of us. While we might appreciate the call to not only commit to daily practice, but to do so with careful intention, it might just feel like we're asking even more of ourselves. Don't we just need a break from it all?

This Sunday from 7 to 8:30pm at Yoga District and online, we'll explore together the paradox of investing in ourselves through practice and the possibilities that might unfold should we choose to find and enter the narrow gate.

I hope to see you there.

With appreciation,
Kristin

[Downtown Dharma Sangha Listserv] Awakening Presence and Ease in Relationship

Hi friends,

This Sunday, we're excited to welcome back guest teacher Dave Leggatt. Dave first introduced our sangha to Insight Dialogue in May; this weekend he'll be offering us another taste of this powerful relational meditation practice.

Insight Dialogue helps us translate the balance and ease of silent meditation into direct relationship with others. Through practice, we deepen our capacity to remain centered and connected during moments of mutual contact—strengthening our potential to "wake up together."

As usual, we'll gather at 7 to 8:30pm at Yoga District (1910 14th St NW, 3rd Floor) and via Zoom (details for joining are below).

Warmly,
Vince

[Downtown Dharma Sangha Listserv] An Evening with Downtown Dharma Sangha: Under the Bodhi Tree: Choosing to Awaken in Love.

Under the Bodhi Tree: Choosing to Awaken in Love.

Downtown Dharma Sangha

DATE: 9/2/2023  TIME: 7:00 - 8:30 PM

Location

  • In-person:1910 14th Street NW,  3rd Floor, Washington, DC 20009

Facilitators- Travis M. Spencer

Mindful Helper:

During our time together we will participate in a heart-centered practice of listening and sharing with one another. We will discuss sitting still and cultivating love in our practice and how that love informs our spiritual awakening and interconnection to life.

Imagine trees standing together in a forest. They don't talk, but they feel each other's presence. When you look at them, you might say they aren't doing anything. But they are growing and providing clean air for living things to breathe. Instead of describing sitting meditation as the practice of concentration, looking deeply, and getting insight, I like to describe sitting as enjoying doing nothing. Primarily, sitting is to enjoy the pleasure of sitting, being fully alive and in touch with the wonders of our working bodies, the cool air, the sounds of people and birds, and the changing colors of the sky.
