[Downtown Dharma Listserve] This Sunday @ Flow

Hi friends,

We will gather this Sunday from 6:00 - 7:30 at Flow Yoga, 1450 P St NW.

We will meditate together, connect as a community, and explore the dharma.

Cushions and back jacks will be provided and we can go over how to make those arrangements comfortable for those of you who are used to sitting in chairs.

Please let me know if you have any questions or feedback about the new space.

With love,
Devin

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] This Sunday ***NEW LOCATION***

Dear Downtown Dharma Sangha,

Happy summer! In many ancient traditions, one of the gifts of summer is Joy. On Sunday, we will meet at our new location, Flow Yoga Center (more info on location below), from 6-7:30 pm to meditate and focus on mindfulness practices around joy.

Address
1450 P Street, NW (b/t 14th & 15th Sts)
Washington, DC 20005
Located next door to the Whole Foods Market.

Unfortunately this location includes two flights of stairs and is not accessible for many with mobility impairments.

Public Transportation

Flow Yoga Center is less than one block from the nearest bus stop (at 14th and P. Sts.) and a half-mile walk from the metro rail stops at Dupont Circle (red line) and McPherson Square (orange line).

Parking

If you're driving, we encourage you to give yourself at least 15-20 minutes to find parking. There's limited street parking around the studios and a Colonial parking garage located on P. St. between 14th and 15th St.

With love,

Linda

Re: [Downtown Dharma Listserve] Picnic, Sunday Sit, and Change in Venue

Dear Sangha,

The weather is great and we've decided to hold sangha here at the park. Same format, just at Malcolm X (Meridian Hill) Park.

Join us! :)

This Sunday, June 16, we will meet at the Potter's House from 6-7:30 pm to meditate and explore mindfulness teachings together. Since this will be our last meeting at the Potter's House (see below), we will include a practice around this transition.

Picnic:

Farbod and Nate are kindly organizing a picnic for us this Sunday at 3 pm at Malcolm X (Meridian Hill) Park.

All are welcome!

They plan to have blankets laid out on a patch of grass under a tree on the right side of the park when facing the drum circle. Food and drinks will be provided and you're welcome to bring something to share if you would like.

Change in Venue:

The Potter's House has been a wonderful home for our community for the last year and a half, and we are very grateful for that. As many of you are aware, some issues that arose required us to look for a new location. A few of you suggested potential options for venues that Devin and I explored the last few weeks. It has become clear that at this time, the most viable option is Flow Yoga Center (1450 P Street, NW b/t 14th & 15th Sts) in Logan Circle. We look forward to this partnership with Flow starting on June 23 and hope that those of you who live in Adams Morgan will make the trip to Flow. If you haven't been there, I personally think you should come at least once just to check out the venue.

With love,

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Seeking a mindfulness-based therapist

Dear Downtown Dharma members,

My Buddhism-based therapist is leaving town and I'm wondering if anyone on the list could recommend a therapist who integrates mindfulness into her practice (would prefer a female therapist).  Please reply to me individually at stacie.marinelli@gmail.com.

Many thanks.

Re: [Downtown Dharma Listserve] Picnic, Sunday Sit, and Change in Venue

Thanks, Linda, and whoever helped organize the move to Flow. It's a nice small space, but it should be noted that it's not accessible, in case that matters to anyone. I'm assuming we would meet in the same upstairs room there where we met earlier this month.

With love,

Linda

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Picnic, Sunday Sit, and Change in Venue

Dear Downtown Dharma Sangha,

I hope you've had an opportunity to enjoy the weather. If not, join us for some outdoor fun on Sunday (see below). Also hope those of you who have been enjoying the weather can join us for some more of it.

Email or text Farbod or Nate if you have any questions/suggestions:
Farbod: 240-888-1324 -
farbod.fakhrai@gmail.com

Nate: 614-653-3103 - nathanielpelz@gmail.com

Change in Venue:

The Potter's House has been a wonderful home for our community for the last year and a half, and we are very grateful for that. As many of you are aware, some issues that arose required us to look for a new location. A few of you suggested potential options for venues that Devin and I explored the last few weeks. It has become clear that at this time, the most viable option is Flow Yoga Center (1450 P Street, NW b/t 14th & 15th Sts) in Logan Circle. If you haven't been there, I personally think you should come at least once just to check out the venue.

With love,

Linda

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Gauging interest in a daylong with Alexis Santos

Hi friends,

Some of you have expressed interest in exploring the natural awareness style of practice further. Kavya had the idea of inviting one of the teachers who has deep experience in this style to come to DC to teach, so I reached out to Alexis Santos, who spent several years as a monk studying with Sayadaw U Tejaniya and now teaches internationally (including teaching with the Sayadaw).

Alexis would be happy to come to DC, and offered to start with a day long. Before we set things in motion, however, I'd like to get a sense of the interest for this type of offering. If it's appealing to you and you would be willing to set aside a day to practice in this style, please write me back saying so. If we there is strong interest, I'll invite him here and find a suitable venue (probably CML in Tenleytown).

With love,

Devin

Happy 2019 everyone!

We look forward to our gathering at the Potter's House this Sunday, January 13 from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm. We will meet in the Community Room behind the bookstore/cafe. The meeting space is wheelchair accessible. Chairs and some meditation cushions will be available, but please feel free to bring your own gear.

All three of our regular teachers, Devin, Kristin, and Linda will lead this special gathering, to mark the beginning of the New Year. After our regular meditation period, we will engage together in our annual "refuge ceremony" to affirm and remind ourselves of the beautiful and powerful resources of our practice. We will follow with a community conversation to discover which class formats, topics, activities, etc. will be most helpful to you and your practice in 2019.

We look forward to practicing together, hearing and gathering your feedback and just being with you.

Much love,

Linda, Kristin, and Devin
