[Downtown Dharma Listserve] This Sunday with Downtown Dharma: What Nature Reveals

Greetings Dear Community,

I hope you'll join us this Sunday evening when our Sangha meets online (just a little longer!) from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. After meditating together, we'll explore the Dharma and connect with each other.

For many of us, a walk in the woods or even a city park settles the heart. Why? What's going on here? In our dharma exploration, we'll explore what happens when we connect with the natural world and how time spent in the wilder places can provide wisdom, healing and even inspiration.

Happy Everyday is Earth Day (more thoughts on that notion here in today's IMCW's blog) and thank you for your practice.

Kristin

Start time: Sunday, 7:00 PM US Eastern Time - Click here to join the zoom meeting
Meeting ID: 466 237 117

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Therapist specialized in Mindfulness Meditation in the area

Hi everyone, I am happy to announce to the group that I am now providing psychotherapy in private practice. I just graduated with the Mindfulness Meditation Certification Program with Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield.  I have a lot of experience working with grief, loss, anxiety, chronic pain, stress, and trauma from my work at Washington Hospital Center as a crisis counselor. Due to my philosophy, practice, and my training, I do use mindfulness meditation during sessions as needed.

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Re: Reading group 4.17

Hi all,

I've arrived at Malcom X and am generally in the NE corner of the park near the 15thbstreet entrance. Green shirt red bike. Looking how I look.

Hi all,

Just a reminder that we're still meeting today at 5 in Malcom X. I'll send a note closer to 5 indicating exactly where we are sitting but let's plan on closer to the northern edge of the park.

Thanks! Looking forward to it!

Hi everyone!

For the next iteration of the Downtown Dharma reading/discussion group we're going to try meeting up....IN PERSON at Malcom X park at 5pm on Saturday the 17th. Hopefully the weather is nice!

The material for this month's conversation comes from Annie Dillard's book A Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, which despite not being a Buddhist book is one of the most inquisitive and joyful explorations of how mindfulness can reveal the miraculous in our surrounding environment I've encountered. She is a beautiful writer (seriously, like sublimely jaw-dropping in places) who captures how clear attention can transform experience, and also probes the relationship between mindfulness/attention and wisdom.

Please feel invited to join on the 17th. I wrote up some discussion questions (pdfs included) to frame the conversation. I think this should be fun, and thanks for being YOU.

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] This Sunday

Dear friends,

We will meet this Sunday from 7 to 8:30 to meditate, explore the dharma together, and connect with each other. The topic for this week will be working with the emotions from the perspective of "not self". I will draw on some therapeutic perspectives like Internal Family Systems to provide other ways of describing what I understand to be the Buddha's teaching on this subject.

With love,
Devin

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Reading group 4.17

With love,
