Depending on what you're trying to do, there are a few automated tools.

The Dead Code Detector will allow you to find dead code that isn't used anywhere.

The PHP Lines of Code tool will give you a basic understanding of the complexity and size of your project.

The PHP Copy Paste Detector will help you find code that is duplicated throughout the codebase.

[dcphp-dev] Fare thee well, fellow nerds

Goodbye, fellow nerds. My wife has been accepted to a Ruby on Rails
training program out in Denver, so we are moving out there in a couple
weeks so that she can join the wonderful world of web development.

I haven't been around much lately, but it has been a pleasure meeting
many of you at the meetups, and kudos are due to organizers past and
present. I always liked our format—monthly presentations, with a
couple social events mixed in between—and even tried to get the local
Drupal group to follow a similar schedule (didn't quite get it off the
ground, but that's not the point). I hope the Denver is as well-
organized and welcoming as ours.

Take care of yourselves, and I'll see you around!

MNCs ESTABLISHING SUPREMACY IN INDIAN TWO-WHEELER INDUSTRY

MNCs have deeply penetrated the Indian two-wheeler industry and are
spreading their reach all over India with extensive distribution
network. This has started impacting the Indian domestic players as
their market share are on decline and within couple of years it seems
like the MNCs will capture maximum market share of the Indian domestic
players and dominate the market

Honda: Honda a MNC is aiming at dominating the market and capturing
the No.1 position in the Indian motorbike industry leaving Hero
behind. Two years back Honda's production capacity was 80000 units
per month, which has increased to 2.5 lacs units per month and further
targeting to more than 5 lacs units per month within 2 years. The firm
is all set to start production at the upcoming 3rd plant in Narsapur
facility in Kolar district, near Bengaluru from January 2013 along
with an additional second line of production in its 2nd plant in
Rajasthan in March 2013. To boost it all it is further investing Rs
1,500 crore in its 4th plant at Karnataka, scheduled to open in 2014,
as a part of expansion of network.

Yamaha: Yamaha is expanding its capacity in existing two plants and
also coming up with a 3rd plant in chennai, shooting up its capacity
from 40000 units per month to 1 Lac units per month within a span of
18 months. At present they have 400 dealers, to increase the
distribution network in tier 2 and tier 3 cities they are increasing
to total of 2000 dealers.

Suzuki: Suzuki plans to increase 5 times from its existing capacity by
setting up a new plant in Rohtak and coming up with 7 new models of
bikes of different variants

In the coming years the impact of MNCs will be so strong that it will
weaken the Indian domestic players. Currently MNCs hold a market share
of 25% which is predicted to go up 55% to 60% in span of 2 years
establishing supremacy in Indian two wheeler industry

Academy of Hope

Position Description

Title: Fast Track GED Contract Instructor

Supervisor: Strive for Success Program Manager

The contract instructor is responsible for creating a supportive, empowering learning environment for young adult learners (ages 18-24) and delivering quality content area instruction. This person also fills administrative and management roles as necessary.

Classes will be located at the Sasha Bruce office in Ward 8. They will run from 9 am until 2 pm, Tuesdays through Fridays, starting in January 2013 and ending in May 2013.

Student Instruction and Support

§ Teach math or an integrated writing/reading-subjects course to prepare learners to pass the GED.

§ Provide ongoing assessment of individual student progress and adapt curriculum and lesson plans according to the needs of the students.

§ Administer CASAS and the Official Practice GED Test.

§ Collect goal information.

Program Administration

§ Ensure accurate collection of attendance, e.g., contact hours and enrollment status, attendance sign-in sheets.

§ Record, report and give recommendations on student progress, including goals.

§ Work with program staff in preparing for program session, including registration and intake.

§ Be available to meet weekly with academic team to discuss student performance and program operations.

Other Administrative Responsibilities

§ Other duties and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

§ Bachelor degree required. Masters or teacher certification strongly preferred.

§ Significant experience working with disconnected youth.

§ Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

§ Excellent time management and organizational skills.

§ Must be a self-starter and able to multi-task.

§ Strong computer skills, including Excel.

§ Excellent oral and written communication skills.

§ Strong cultural competency skills, including excellent ability to communicate with a diverse population.

This is an excellent time to remind everybody that Joind.in exists and you should join. :)

Even if you're not intending to give talks, Joind.in allows you to rate talks that you've heard, which is great feedback to help improve speakers and let organizers (ahem) know how well a talk went over. You can both rate and leave comments, and it's organized by event.

So if you go there, you can find things grouped by event and look for php|tek 2012:

That lets you see the highest rated talks, often with descriptions and links to slides, plus the comments on it.

TL;DR: Shorter Mayans: date math is hard. Also join Joind.In to see good talks from past conferences.

For the benefit of the victims of Sandy Hook Elementary,

The venerable monks at the Washington Buddhist Vihara invite you to a Transference of Merit ceremony. The ceremony will start at 4 pm on Sunday, December 23, 2012. The normal 3 pm to 4 pm sit will be canceled that day. The address of the Vihara is 5017 16th Street NW, Washington, DC.

For those new to Buddhism, to the Vihara, or simply interested, Buddhism teaches good deeds bring happiness to the doer both in this world and in the hereafter. Good deeds can be performed through body, speech or mind. Simply put, every good deed produces 'merit' which accumulates to the 'credit' of the doer. Buddhist traditions teach that acquired merit can be transferred to others, just as much as it can be shared vicariously with others. In this ceremony next Sunday, we will transfer the merits to departed ones. The method for transferring merits is quite straightforward and, if you can't make the ceremony, this can be performed absent a formal ritual. First, perform some good deed in body, speech or mind. An mental good deed means you only have to wish that the merit you have gained accrues to the merit of the victims of Sandy Hook Elementary, or to a wider radius, to include their loved ones, to the healing of confusion and attachment to violence in our human culture, to all suffering beings. This wish can be a pure act of the heart or a thought form without words or it can accompanied by an expression of words. Although the Buddhist ceremony changes slightly from country to country, tradition to tradition, generally at the heart of the ritual is the transference of water from a jug or other similar vessel into a receptacle, while chanting.

[dcphp-dev] Hacking Against Domestic Violence

Hello everyone! Sandy invited me to share a note with the group about a project I am working on in DC.

On January 26th and 27th I'm helping organize a hackathon to build solutions addressing issues in domestic violence. We're doing this effort in collaboration with six countries in Central America (though the DC event isn't focused on Latin America). I'm looking for developers in the DC area who would be interested in joining this effort. The exciting thing about it is that we've been doing a ton of work on defining strong problems so that the work we do that weekend will directly impact organizations and individuals that work on domestic violence. Some of these problems are also particularly relevant for PHP developers. For example, one problem is to create a niche job search platform that allows businesses to connect with service providers to survivors of domestic violence and offer jobs to that community.

I am a beginner to intermediate php programmer using mysql_connect and
mysql_* functions for curd operations.

As world have changed and I also need to change to adapt the new way,
I am trying to implement CRUD using PDO the very first time.

I have created following class:
