Hi Scott

Suzanne has already volunteered for tomorrow. Thanks to both of you for helping out. Can I put you down for a week (or two) in August?

[IMCW-Engaged-Sangha] Today: URGENT FCNL/ INTERFAITH ACTION #savemedicaid 24 hour vigil on Capitol lawn THIS Weds and Thurs PLEASE FORWARD

Hi all, despite the vote delay, Medicaid and the ACA are still under great threat
A friend and I will be at this Friends-led interfaith vigil this evening.

Please consider joining the Washington Inter-religious Staff Community and FCNL as we hold Congress in the light in peaceful, prayerful opposition to the deceptively named Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA). This bill would decimate Medicaid that helps millions access healthcare as well as end coverage for millions more.

We'll be starting our prayer vigil Wednesday, June 28th at 4:00 PM in front of the Capitol complex across the street from SCOTUS. We will be there for 23 hours. I'll be there for the start of the graveyard shift at midnight. Anytime you can make it would be a great help!! Please sign up!!

LOADS more information coming  but we have an invite and event page, and links for you to forward.

And of course, come for any part of this.

Dear Friends;

Friends and Friends Committee on National Legislation are taking action to save Medicaid, and we need your help.   FCNL and the Interfaith Health Coalition are holding a 24 hour prayerful vigil on the Capitol Lawn, and we need Friends' presence during any or all of the vigil!

Can you please help us spread this news far and wide amongst Friends in the meeting, and beyond?

Interfaith Health Care Vigil
June 28th, 2017 at 4 pm-3 pm Thursday June 29th, 2017
Capitol Lawn Area 9
The Senate will be holding  twenty hours of required debate on the Better Care Reconciliation Act of 2017 (BCRA) and we want senators to know that we are not only watching how they will vote, but also praying for the millions of people who will be harmed if this horrible legislation passes. Thousands will lose their lives and millions more will lose access to care they so desperately need.

Get up to date information is it unfolds here: www.fcnl.org/medicaidvigil/<http://www.fcnl.org/medicaidvigil/>

We need Quakers to be present, to pray and witness and put our bodies and voices in front of Congress  as we advocate against this monstrous bill.

During this time, we will hold a vigil with prayer, testimony, and protest on the Capitol lawn between the Supreme Court and the Capitol Building.

•       We are asking local Friends to come out in force and join us on the Capitol Lawn

•       For Friends coming from afar or for those who need to take rest and shelter during the evening of the vigil, Friends Meeting of Washington has volunteered the meetinghouse for people who wish to sleep at any point during the vigil.  RSVP to cashley@fcnl.org<mailto:cashley@fcnl.org> if you need evening shelter 9 pm-7 am.

•       We are looking for donations of food for vigil participants. This can include casseroles, salads, fruit, bread and cheese, etc.  Donations can be dropped off at FCNL.

•       We especially need Friends able and willing to participate in the vigil between 12 am and 6 am, as Capitol police require we have an active presence on the lawn.

•       Stories, singing, and prayers are needed. FRIENDS ARE NEEDED

Contact Christine Ashley for more information about how you can participate.  cashley@fcnl.org<mailto:cashley@fcnl.org> or text 515-864-9747

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Join us Tomorrow: Guided meditation and talk

Join us tomorrow for a Dharma talk and guided meditation at the Lamont Dharma House!

Opening to Joy in Our Practice dharma talk this Thursday.
View this email in your browser

Coming up at Lamont Dharma House

Dharma Talk: Opening to Joy in Our Practice
Thursday, June 22, 2017 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.

Joy can be overlooked as an integral part of the spiritual journey. The First Noble Truth says that there is suffering in life. As much as this truth must be seen and acknowledged, this path points to the fact that suffering is not enough.

The Dalai Lama points out that the purpose of life is to see and experience beauty, goodness and joy. In these times of stress and complexity, it is easy to forget our deepest intentions. It is easy to get so caught up that we fail to see moments of beauty and joy.

Join Luisa Montero for an exploration of joy and how we might let joy take its rightful place on and off the cushion by turning toward, encouraging, and bringing it to life.

The session will include silent meditation, a dharma talk, and a brief time Q and A. If you arrive late please wait to enter until the meditation has ended.

Here's more information on Ms. Luisa Montero.

This event is free and open to the public, but we encourage people to give dana (donation) to support the teachers and the space. The suggested donation for this event is $10-15.

Our weekly schedule

Lamont Dharma House offers various yoga and meditation practices throughout the week. Visit our website for our weekly schedule and calendar of events.

All classes and events are available on a donation basis in the Buddhist tradition of dana (the Pali word for "generosity"). Please bring a yoga mat or meditation cushion.
Please forward this email on to anyone who may be interested. If you'd like to be added to our list, sign up here.

Please consider joining me; and feel free to bring friends, significant others, and children.

What:    One Hour, One World presentation and chance to mingle and talk with Ayuda's volunteer coordinator, Laura Catania
When:   Sunday, June 25th, from 3 - 5 p.m.
**Please arrive by 3 or 3:15; so that Laura can start her presentation at 3:30**
Why:     To connect with practical ways to help immigrants and refugees living in the DC area

[IMCW-Engaged-Sangha] Re: IMCW Engaged Sangha - Next potluck, Teach-ins

Hi Engaged Sangha members,

I wanted to let everyone know that we ended up deciding not to hold tomorrow's potluck.  I received more responses from folks saying that were going to be out of town than I did RSVPs -- clearly a busy travel weekend for a lot of people!

Would someone like to volunteer to host in July, perhaps July 8th or 15th?  (I probably can host if others are not able to.)

Have a good weekend!

Becky

Hi Everyone,

We had a wonderful get together at Nancy's last weekend.  A lot of interesting discussion and some delicious food!

I have offered to host the next potluck which will be Saturday, June 17, 5pm - 8pm.  I am in the Takoma DC neighborhood, a short walk from the Takoma station.  Please RSVP if you'd like to respond and I'll send out my address and contact info.

Regarding teach-ins, I had offered to organize one on healthcare/Medicaid. I've made modest progress so far.  I'm wondering if anyone would like to partner with me and help maintain some momentum?

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Early July events

Hi, I wanted to call your attention to two events that I'm planning to go to:

Ajahn Sumedho is visiting River Road Unitarian for a talk on July 1- it's full but there is a waitlist.

Amma, the hugging saint who Klia mentioned the other week, has a DC visit July 4-5

LMK if you're going to these and might want to coordinate!

  • Experience working with SAAS/RESTfull API's.
  • Comfortable blurring the line between traditional back- and front-end development, often integrating PHP with client-side frameworks and Ajax.
