I hope you're staying cool in this muggy weather! I wanted to share with you a training course that the Chesapeake Bay Trust is cosponsoring with the Center for Watershed Protection. This training session provides class room and hands on training in designing and installing stormwater/low impact development practices (such as rain gardens) for young people and for workers looking to join this growing field. Please pass this on to anyone you know of who might be interested in this training! All successful training attendees will receive a certificate at the end of the course.

[dcphp-dev] Small Plug for [yet another] regional/sattelite PUG.

Of interest to folks within reasonable distance to Charlottesville, VA.

Hi, my name is Sean Prunka. I can't make it into DC for the cool kids' meetings, so I did the next best thing and created a PHP User Group a little closer to work (and home.)
We're still establishing our basic footing, but have (for the time being) solidified on meeting the third Tuesday of the month, so as not to conflict with other meetings.
We don't have a budget of any sort at this time and are looking for speaking volunteers and co-organizers to share responsibilities.
Everyone here is invited, if Charlottesville isn't too far of a hike for you. Please help spread the word throughout the community

Meetings are hosted at:
Battelle Memorial Institute
1001 Research Park Blvd.
Town Center 2; Suite 400 (in the Kirby Conference Room)
Charlottesville, VA 22911

Time:
Third Tuesday of the month (next meeting is June 19th)
Doors open around 5, meeting starts at 6, runs until roughly 7:30 (we may extend it if the group gets large enough, but for now, that hour and a half seems like more than enough time.)

We have a Facebook page ( http://www.facebook.com/CHOPUG ), a Twitter account ( @CHOPUG ) and a Google Groups mailing list ( http://groups.google.com/d/forum/chopug )
So far, I am the only officer and our average meeting size has been 5 people (myself included.) Help us grow? Thank you!

یک روز توی پیاده رو به طرف میدان تجریش می رفتم...
از دور دیدم یك كارت پخش كن خیلی با كلاس، كاغذهای رنگی قشنگی دستشه ولی به هر كسی نمیده!
خانم ها رو که کلا تحویل نمی گرفت و در مورد آقایون هم خیلی گزینشی رفتار می كرد و معلوم بود فقط به كسانی كاغذ رو می داد كه مشخصات خاصی از نظر خودش داشته باشند، اهل حروم كردن تبلیغات نبود ....
احساس كردم فكر می كنه هر كسی لیاقت داشتن این تبلیغات تمام رنگی گرون قیمت رو نداره ،لابد فقط به آدمهای باكلاس و شیك پوش و با شخصیت میده! از كنجكاوی قلبم داشت می اومد توی دهنم...!!!
خدایا، نظر این تبلیغاتچی خوش تیپ و با كلاس راجع به من چی خواهد بود؟! آیا منو تائید می كنه؟!!

كفشهامو با پشت شلوارم پاك كردم تا مختصر گرد و خاكی كه روش نشسته بود پاك بشه و كفشم برق بزنه!
شكم مبارك رو دادم تو و در عین حال سعی كردم خودم رو كاملا بی تفاوت نشون بدم!
دل تو دلم نبود. یعنی منو می پسنده؟ یعنی به من هم از این كاغذهای خوشگل میده...؟!
همین طور كه سعی می كردم با بی تفاوتی از كنارش رد بشم با لبخند نگاهی بهم كرد و یک كاغذ رنگی به طرفم گرفت و گفت: "آقای محترم! بفرمایید!"
قند تو دلم آب شد!
با لبخندی ظاهری و با حالتی که نشون بدم اصلا برام مهم نیست بهش گفتم : می گیرمش ولی الان وقت خوندنش رو ندارم! كاغذ رو گرفتم ...
چند قدم اونورتر پیچیدم توی قنادی و اونقدر هول بودم كه داشتم با سر می رفتم توی كیك . وایسادم و با ولع تمام به كاغذ نگاه كردم،

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Alternative Sangha gathering- Sunday, May 27, 6:00 pm, Meridian Hill/Malcolm X park

Dear All Souls sangha members,

The All Souls building is closed on Sunday, but several of us plan to meet at Meridian Hill/Malcolm X park. We will meet at the NE corner of 16th and Florida at 6:00 pm, and then we will find a spot in the park.

Our plan is to do a short sit together, listen to a short dharma talk via podcast (with speakers), and then converse about whatever is alive in our practice at the moment . . . plus enjoy a potluck picnic. And if you want to hang around afterward, Danya is planning to bring her badminton set! Other games also welcome

I hope you can join us! If you can come, please bring a potluck dish to share, something to drink, plasticwear/plates, cups, etc. There will be a few blankets to share, but additional blankets would be welcome (or chair if that is your preference).

It looks like the weather will be hot, with a small chance of rain. Unless it rains, we plan to meet at the park. If it does rain, we will meet at Danya's place. Look for an email if rain is imminent to indicate a change of location.

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Next Buddha Brunch?

Any volunteers to host the next Buddha Brunch? We've had a good
string of them in a row for the past 4 or 5 months -- discussing
aspects of the Eightfold Path, including wise speech and wise
intention -- and it would be great to continue on the tradition. It
doesn't require much to host - all you have to do select and share a
reading that interests you (approximately 3-8 pages) and have enough
space for 6-10 people (cozy is fine). We've been meeting on Saturdays
at noon, which seems to works for most people, but timing and date is
up to you. If no one else volunteers, I'm happy to host, but thought
I'd make the pitch first.

Fw: [Downtown Dharma Listserve] Day long meditation at my newly-acquired home

Hello,

Just a reminder, tomorrow, Saturday 5/19, I'm having a meditation to bless my newly purchased home. I'll be there from 10-4, but it's a drop-in event for everyone, so come and go as you please. We will be doing 40-45 minute sits, followed by moving/walking meditation. Please try to plan your arrival time to be from forty minutes past the hour to the top of the hour in order to avoid interrupting the sitting portion. Also, feel free to bring any recordings of guided meditations (I have speakers for iphones and ipods), or meditation ideas in general.

The address is 734 Kennedy St NE, DC, and it's red/green/yellow line accessible by the Fort Totten Metro station. It's also pretty bikable, and Gallatin street is the street that cuts from Northwest across North Capitol, and then you can take the path under the Metro tracks at Fort Totten and head to my house that way.

As for lunch, we'll do that at 1:00. It will be potluck, but don't worry about bringing anything, because I'm going to make a few vegetarian dishes. I will also have my juicer and a bunch of produce at the ready if you want some delicious and nutritious juice concoctions. Feel free to bring some raw produce, and the juicer will take care of the rest!

This is a for a personal project where I'm trying to track some info, projects and data amongst friends & family, with servers in the eu and us. I thought about going the unix route but masochist I am I thought I'd try doing it all in php, but the deeper I dig the more obfuscated this becomes and makes my head hurt. Reading the docs, digging on stackoverflow just makes it worse.

One of the biggest things is that Mexican & CET timezones do not switch over to Winter & Summer times like here in the US, so there's always a bit of +/- 1 or 2 hours. I'm going to keep digging in this. I blame Benjamin Franklin for this mess.

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Day long meditation at my newly-acquired home

To celebrate my acquisition of my very own house, I'm going to hold a day-long meditation this Saturday May 19. (I close on Friday). The address is 734 Kennedy Street, NE in DC. It's about 5 blocks from the Fort Totten Metro station, and is red/green/yellow line accessible.

Honda is going to increase production capacity from 2 lakh to 5 lakhs
units per month within one year along with Yamaha who is also in verge
of increasing production capacity from 40000 to 85000 units per month
within same period whereas Suzuki will be setting up a new plant at
Rohtak in Haryana which will increase its production capacity by 2.5
times. Hero Moto corp soon going to start export in Africa & Latin
American Countries, directly affecting Bajaj Auto which has no new
technology, no resale value, & high maintenance cost resulting in
downgrading from its 2nd position to 4th position in the domestic
market. Last quarter result decline and coming quarter result seem to
be negative.
