[dcphp-dev] Forum One Open House - 5 November 5:30 - 7:00 PM

Forum One is hosting an open house at our space in DC on Thursday, 5 November at 5:30 PM. Wanted to talk with folks, talk a little about all the cool things we -- and you -- have been up to and make some introductions to some of the team. We'd love the opportunity to meet you -- cue the Uncle Sam poster. So come on down, talk about Drupal or WordPress or Laravel, or maybe some Angular or Backbone or even Jenkins and Capistrano if you're feeling saucy. Some more information, the official stuff, can be found at http://forumone.com/event/winter-recruiting-event-developer-open-house/.

Hi Danya,

Thanks for the link however it directs to your evite. Folks can probably use the link, but will need to make sure to "change reply" so they can take out your name and add their own.

Agreed on it being a very thoughtful idea.

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Re: Group house opportunity!

Hi, everyone!  I've made some changes to my ad so am sending through now.  Thanks!
Marc

Opportunity for intentional living! Available December 1. I am a friendly Buddhist/vipassana practitioner looking for two housemates to co-create a new, intentional community together in Kensington that is supportive of deepening our spiritual/meditative practices and also of having fun and feeling relaxed to be ourselves!

I see this as some configuration of regular sits together and a heathy balance of camaraderie, occasional meals, listening to dharma talks, contemplations, and time to ourselves. The home has been renovated and has A/C, washer/dryer (in basement), and a dishwasher. It's 1.6 miles from the Wheaton Metro, 1 mile from the MARC station, close to historic Antique Row and the farmer's market, Rock Creek Park, and 495.

Each bedroom/bath is on its own floor. (I'll be on the top floor.) The two available bedrooms/baths are as follows:

- $900 - Bedroom on the first floor with closet and full bath (with tub) across the hall.
- $900 - Fully-finished basement with bedroom, separate living room, full bath with shower, and separate entrance.

Utilities (gas, electric, water) would be split by all (approx. $100 each or less per month) plus sharing of WiFi bill. One-month security deposit.

There are three common areas: the living room, kitchen, sun room, and meditation room.

If interested, please send me a message with a little bit about yourself and your interests in this type of living. Thanks!

The address is 10711 Pearson Street, 20895. Here is a link for the pictures: https://goo.gl/photos/F3SzsHiYLrLkNvJXA It's 1.6 miles from the Wheaton Metro and 1 mile to the MARC station. I'll be new to Kensington, myself, but everyone I've talked to loves it there. And it's well-located – convenient to many things (DC, the beltway, metro, MARC train, etc.).

The home is set up in such a way that each person would have their own bedroom and bath. The basement has its own bedroom and a little living room and a bathroom; the first floor has a bedroom and bath (there's a smaller bedroom next to that which I was thinking of as one of the meditation areas but am not totally decided yet); and the top floor with a bedroom and bath is what I would occupy for myself. There a nice big back yard that I'm looking at as a canvas for fun! And open to suggestions/participation. The rent would be about $900/mo (still working out final figures!) plus 1/3 utilities (approx. 100 or less). And I'd be looking for roommates somewhere in the November/December timeframe.

If you think you are interested, let me know and we can meet up and discuss further. Or if you know of anyone else who might be interested in this, please feel free to let them know too!

Best,

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Fwd: adams morgan sublet opportunity - please share with friends!

To: "maggie.lemere" <maggie.lemere@gmail.com>

dear friends,

i hope this message finds you warm & well! as some of already know, i'm going to be traveling abroad quite a bit in the next few months for work, weddings and the like--and therefore am looking for potential subletters (preferably friends or friends-of-friends) to make my room their home for part or all of the time that i am away.

much appreciation in advance for sharing the following details with anyone you know that might be looking.

warmly,
maggie

Adams Morgan Sublet Available:

I have a really big, lovely, light-filled room in a great group house in the heart of adams morgan (near the intersection of 18th & Colombia Streets) and I am hoping to find a friend or a friend-of-a-friend who might be interested in subletting and joining my group house community for any part of the time.

available dates:
October 16 - November 13
December 20- Feb 1

The location:
Our home is in the center of Adams Morgan which is close to many major bus lines (16th street buses, 42/43, L2, 90, 93, etc.) and also equidistant to 3 metro lines (red, green & yellow). The red line stop is in woodley park and is about a 10 minute walk or a 5 minute bus ride, and the green/yellow is in columbia heights which is the same in terms of walking or busing. Overall, it's considered a very desirable location with numerous coffee shops, grocery stores, restaurants, bars, the zoo and rock creek park all within a 5-minute walk. There are easily accessible bike lanes and paths.

the house, the home and the room:
The house is 4 stories and has 6 roommates (the subletter would be the 6th person). The room which is available is the biggest room in the house on the top floor, with a big queen canopy bed, couch/futon, coffee table, reading chair, many well-loved plants and books. there are 6 big windows looking out over the neighborhood and a bike store next door. there is lots of light throughout the day, and nice sunset lighting with west-facing windows in particular. there are 3 people to full bathroom, and 3 bathrooms in the house. we also have 3 people to fridge and a washer/dryer.

the roommates range in age from 24-38 and though we all do our own thing, we also get along well and are also genuinely friends! it's not uncommon for people to hang out in the kitchen while cooking and have tea, a beer or glass of wine together, reflecting on their day. roommates include a dj, international development researcher, consultant by day / activist by night, social impact filmmaker, lawyer and budding social entrepreneur/ soon-to-be graduate student. we're all generally progressive, kind, and caring, community-orientated people.

The sublet dates and price are negotiable.

If you are interested please send me an email at: maggie.lemere@gmail.com

Thanks!

Daylong Retreat -- Saturday, October 3rd

Are you interested in a day of silence and concentrated meditation practice in the middle of Washington, DC?

If so, join us on Saturday, October 3rd, for a day of alternating sitting and walking practice in Mt Pleasant.

We will be begin at 9:00 am with a 45 minute sitting session, and then alternate throughout the day with periods of sitting and walking.

At 5:00 we will conclude with a blessing of traditional Buddhist chants in Pali, the language of the Buddha's time. The chants will be offered by a community member who has practiced in Thailand for many years.  We invite you to stay after the blessing for dinner, tea and connection with sangha!

Who and Where We Are

We're a group house devoted to meditation and spiritual practice located at 1719 Lamont St NW in Mt. Pleasant.  The entire ground floor of our house is devoted to meditation and yoga.  Our hope is to grow the space as a community sanctuary, offering meditation, yoga and other opportunities for practice.

Practical Matters

- If you'd like to join us, please fill out this brief form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1A5byfXDqA9jQWH5I3hDQh2H3mrjGTBTya82bhDYwD2Q/viewform?usp=send_form

- Please bring your own cushion, mat, or bench for sitting if you would like one… we have a limited number to share.

- We will observe the age old tradition of "noble silence" until 5pm, so prepare yourself to relish in the spaciousness of quietude.

- There will be a one hour lunch break at noon, during which we will also hold silence.  We suggest you bring your own lunch, or feel free to venture into the world to buy lunch on Mt. Pleasant St.

- The day will begin with a brief set of instructions for folks who are new to meditation, and there will be a second brief instruction following lunch.

- As we get closer to the date we will send out a more detailed schedule.

You can only make part of the day?

No problem!  Feel free to join us only for the morning, or for the afternoon, as your schedule permits.  Please observe the notice about maintaining silence suggested above if you need to come and go.  Also feel free to join only for the blessing and gathering if you like.
