[dcphp-dev] Re: March Meeting: Genius Bar?

Hi Sandy,

Will we meet at an Apple Retail Store?  :)  Where will the Genius Bar be located?  My biggest problem is that I work in Tyson's Corner, and getting into DC at 6:30 or 7:00 is fairly difficult.

I must admit that I have not been doing much with WP or with Drupal.  Nevertheless, both WP and Drupal are continuing to evolve, and I remain interested in how these applications are changing as well as keeping abreast of the changes and trends in the PHP language and in PHP frameworks.

By the way, I tend to be focused data, namely, ETL (extract, transform and load), filtering, aggregation...on designing applications with various back-end storage systems, e.g., Redis, MongoDB, Neo4j, Cassandra, Hbase, PostgreSQL, MySQL and so on.  Distributed computing is also an area of interest--multi-core and multi-server applications for both real-time, transactional Web applications and for off-line batch processing.

Hey everybody--

Something WordPress DC has been doing to great effect has been having the occasional Genius Bar instead of a speaker. Advanced users and newbies and everybody in between come together to ask questions and give help instead of listening to a speaker.

I'd really like to do that for March, but I would like some idea that some of the more senior devs will show up--we can even ask each other things.

Those of you who've been a member for a while, like me, have benefitted from the knowledge of others in the group, and I'm asking you to give back by mentoring the next generation of PHP devs. We  have a lot of people who've signed up on Meetup saying they've been using WP or Drupal and want to get to know PHP better, and I think this is a great way to help.

Please reply if this is something you'd be interested in doing.

Thanks,
Sandy
