[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Webinar with Kaira Jewel & Hai An honoring Juneteenth--this June 16th

Emancipation: Honoring Juneteenth and it's meaning for us today

Sunday, June 16th, 8am-10am Pacific/11am-1pm Eastern

Join Kaira Jewel Lingo and Sr. Hai An in this two-hour, online Zoom event to mindfully celebrate Juneteenth—the historical moment when Union soldiers announced the end of slavery in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865. We will learn about the history of Juneteenth and the facilitators--a woman of color and a white woman--will offer their reflections on the meaning of this day for our mindfulness practice. Through guided meditation and discussion in identity groups, we will explore how we can apply mindfulness in the service of healing our ancestors and ourselves and in support of emancipation for all of us.

We welcome people of all racial identities to explore together how this historical legacy of slavery and it's transformation impacts all of us and how we can practice together to create greater justice and racial healing.

Please register in advance using this link so that we can prepare the breakout groups according to your self-identified racial identity. This information will be kept private and used only for the purposes of this call.

The Zoom call information will be sent to you after you register.

There is no fee for this event. You are invited to offer a donation to support the teachers/facilitators via PayPal or Venmo (@Kaira-Lingo).

We hope to see you there! And thank you for spreading the word.

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] This Sunday ***NEW LOCATION***

Hi friends,

We will be gathering this Sunday at Flow Yoga on P street from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM to meditate and connect with each other. (Note: there are two Flow studios. This one is 1450 P Street). I'll be offering a practice in the style of Sayadaw U Tejaniya, as I have for the past few classes. The emphasis will be on maintaining a continuity of awareness.

The Potters House told us yesterday that the they are cancelling our class this weekend to make room for another event. They also told us they would be doing this several more times this year. We are still trying to discern the implications of this, but in the meantime the good people at Flow have agreed to welcome us into their space on Sunday.

There will be some chairs available as well as plenty of cushions and back jacks for people to make themselves comfortable on the floor. The space is, sadly,  not wheelchair accessible. To enter, ring the bell to the right of the door and the studio manager will buzz you in.

We look forward to practicing together tomorrow.

With love,

Devin

Happy 2019 everyone!

We look forward to our gathering at the Potter's House this Sunday, January 13 from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm. We will meet in the Community Room behind the bookstore/cafe. The meeting space is wheelchair accessible. Chairs and some meditation cushions will be available, but please feel free to bring your own gear.

All three of our regular teachers, Devin, Kristin, and Linda will lead this special gathering, to mark the beginning of the New Year. After our regular meditation period, we will engage together in our annual "refuge ceremony" to affirm and remind ourselves of the beautiful and powerful resources of our practice. We will follow with a community conversation to discover which class formats, topics, activities, etc. will be most helpful to you and your practice in 2019.

We look forward to practicing together, hearing and gathering your feedback and just being with you.

Much love,

Linda, Kristin, and Devin
