[Downtown Dharma Sangha Listserv] Downtown Dharma Sunday 7/31: Relating to Fear and Anxiety

Hi everyone!

We will meet tomorrow, Sunday July 31 from 7-8:30pm at Yoga District at 1910 14th St. NW. You can also join via Zoom. Details for attending in person and online are below.

Our sangha member Josh Malina will be offering us a peer-led session. From Josh: This week we will explore how to connect with fear and anxiety. I hope some of you can relate!

Attending In Person
If you are attending in person, you will need to do the following:

a) Register through the Yoga District sign-up link -- scroll way to the bottom for (14th street) Sunday 7pm.

b) Submit proof of boosted vaccination to yogadc@yogadistrict.com or present it in person at the studio.

c) Wear a mask.

d) Arrive 10 minutes early (6:50 pm) to check-in. (Since we staff these events ourselves, the doors will be locked at 7:10 pm and unfortunately, there will be no one at the desk to admit latecomers.)

We ask everyone to register and submit proof of boosted vaccination ahead of time to avoid delays. Class is held on the 3rd floor, up two flights of stairs. There are rugs, bolsters, and folding chairs for seating.

[Downtown Dharma Sangha Listserv] This Sunday with Downtown Dharma: Skillful Screen Use? [Bring Your Phone]

Hi all,

We will meet on Sunday, July 24 from 7-8:30pm at Yoga District at 1910 14th St. NW for a special evening focused skillful screen time, led by guest teacher Mark Stone. You can also join via Zoom. Unlike most meditations: please bring a charged cell phone since you will use it during the interactive workshop portion (Zoom friends, you will also participate via breakout groups, but you won't need a U.S. cell phone). If anyone has an extra phone they might be able to briefly lend to a sangha friend, please bring it! It is fine if your phone is not "smart" - it will be used for two exercises, one that involves individual screen time and one that involves texting.

Theme: "We are just beginning to understand how our ever-growing use of screens (smartphones, computers, etc.) can impact our mind, body, and soul. How do we embody our screen experience? How does communicating via screen compare with a face-to-face meeting? Are there ways that screens can enhance our practice? Following our usual 30 minute sit, Mark Stone will lead a "hands-on" experiment and discussion on developing skillful use of screens for deeper connection and practice. Bring your screen!" As most of you know, each month we pick a book or piece of content to read together and discuss. This month, we will be *listening* to a series of Dharma Talks by Rob Burbea. Rob passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2020, and is beloved by many. He has had a huge impact on my own path, so I'm excited to share his teaching and discuss with y'all. If you'd like to read a little bit about Rob, here is a blogpost on his life and teachings.

We will be listening to the following two talks for our discussion:

1. Approaching the Dharma: Part One - Unbinding the World (60 mins)
2. Approaching the Dharma: Part Two - Liberating Ways of Looking (60 mins)

Rob Burbea's teaching style is soulful and creative, so I encourage an openness and curiosity as you listen.

If you find you have more time, and you'd like to listen to more, then the following three talks are the subsequent talks in the series. Our discussion will center on the first two talks, but I wanted to provide some additional listening in case you are really flowing with Rob's Dharma and want to continue listening.

I do not believe we have picked a date yet for our discussion and meeting. Roman has kindly volunteered his apartment to host the in-person gathering, but we will also have a Zoom option for folks like me who will be calling in remotely.

Business of supply

Greetings My name is Maj. Gen. Klaus Davidwest, an American Army,
currently in Syria for peacekeeping duty. I wish to let you know
about a business of supplying Pharmaceutical active ingredients
from India to an American company, I have done this business with
an Indian partner until last when I lost him. There is an active
raw ingredients oil, which I supplied to the American company
from India through an Indian partner. Right now I am in Syria for
a peacekeeping mission, secondly the Coronavirus problem, so I
cannot execute the business by myself hence I'm seeking your
partnership, the Director of the American company has asked me
for the contact of the India dealer to enable them to contact
them for the supply.

Because of the Corona-Virus pandemic, they told me that they
cannot send their Manager to India, but they will send money to
their agent in the American Embassy in India so that he can get
the product from the seller and make payment. Afterwards, the
agent will courier the product to America through their freight
agent.

Last year the American Company sent their purchase manager to
India, but due to the recent global pandemic Corona Virus Threat,
the American Company opted to send money to the agent to get the
product and cargo to them to American. I do not wish to give the
American company's Managing Director or Chief Purchase Officer,
the contact of the Indian Seller, because of my profit in the
business, I normally made good profits and it was too encouraging
to give away, I intended to present you as the Indian vendor to
the American company (That means that you will stand as a middle
person between the American company and original Indian vendor)
so that the American company will not know the source and real
cost of the stuff.

The Original Indian vendor is selling the material at the cost of
4,370USD Per Litre, while the American company buys at the cost
of 13,890USD Per Litre. The Company normally demands between
1000- 1500 Litres every three months. I will convince the
American company to buy the material from you. We will get the
material from the Indian vendor and supply it to the American
company through their agent over there in India. Your duty will
be to get the material from the local dealer and supply to the
American Company then we (you and I ) will share the profit made
on the basis of 70% for you and 30% for me. Your role must be
played perfectly and the least I will expect from you is
betrayal.

Again, I don't want the American company to know the real cost or
source of the product, likewise I don't want the Indian vendor to
know about the American company. Kindly get back to me with your
full name, phone number and contact address, if you are
interested to partner with me.
