[Downtown Dharma Sangha Listserv] Follow up from last night's talk

Hello friends,

Wishing you so well as we enter this new week, and Happy Halloween! It was wonderful sitting with you, and offering teachings. I hope that the evening was of benefit. Please feel free to share any feedback, questions, thoughts, etc. I'd love to hear!

Below, I've also pasted links to sources I consulted while preparing. If you are able and wish to offer dana (generosity) in exchange for the teaching, you can do so via this paypal link or venmo @shawn-shafner (the last four numbers of my phone are 5186). A portion of dana is gifted back to Downtown Dharma.

Thanks again. Wishing you all the best!

Shawn

[Downtown Dharma Sangha Listserv] Last week & next week

Hi all,

I'm sending this out to say thanks again to Dave Trachtenberg for joining us last week. If anyone wants to send a donation to Dave, his Venmo username is @David-Trachtenberg-8. 😊

In addition, if folks are interested in meeting up before the Sangha on November 6th, let me know! I was thinking we could meet up at the Colada Shop right around the corner (1405 T St NW) around 6pm - but I'm open to other suggestions as well!

[Downtown Dharma Sangha Listserv] This Sunday Evening: It All Turns on Compassion

Greetings Dear Community,

We will meet this Sunday, October 16 from 7-8:30pm at Yoga District at 1910 14th St. NW. You can also join via Zoom. Details for attending in person and online are below.

After our community meditation, we'll explore the core concept of compassion (as I accidentally promised last month!). It is difficult to overstate the role of compassion in Buddhist philosophy, teachings, and practices with good reason. Far from mere sentimentality or even the call for empathy, compassion can give us a fundamental approach to wellbeing for ourselves and others, one that can guide us through the most challenging situations.

I look forward to practicing with you at Yoga District or online.

With love and endless blessings,
Kristin

[Downtown Dharma Sangha Listserv] My online men's therapy group (using mindfulness and IFS) has an opening!

Hi dharma friends,

My weekly online men's therapy group has an open slot!

My co-leader and I help those who have been socialized as men navigate relationships, work, and other dimensions of life.

We use trauma-informed mindfulness practices and Internal Family Systems (IFS), an evidence-based therapy used for healing trauma. Much of each session is spent sharing and validating each other's experiences related to work, relationships, dating, family, sex, body image, and more. Each member has regular opportunities to get one-on-one attention using the IFS therapy model. We do some meditation each session as well.

The cost is $100/session and is only open to DC and Maryland residents. If that doesn't work in your budget, we can work with you to find a cost that works for all of us. We meet Thursday evenings 6:15-7:30pm on Zoom.

Email me (jeremy@jeremymohler.blog) to set up a free 15-minute call and see if you're a good fit to join the group!

With warmth,
Jeremy
