POSITION SUMMARY

Contribute to and lead software development projects, including new product development and 
enhancements to existing systems. Work as part of a team to develop, test and maintain mission critical 
web-based applications. 

PRIMARY DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Technical Responsibilities
    • Develop Code for Projects, bug fixes, features and enhancements to a high standard.
    • Manage software workload, estimates, and deliverables according to agreed-upon expectations.
    • Provide day-to-day support as needed for internal applications.
    • Contribute to software design, architecture, and processes. Contribute and lead design discussions.
    • Follow software development process and best practices.
    • Communicate effectively with Stakeholders and Management with respect to roadblocks, breakthroughs, and changes of schedule or scope.
    • Deliver frequent product deployments in a fast paced environment.
    • Contribute to departmental discussions on long term development goals.
    • Provide input to the ongoing process of scaling architecture.
  • Business Support Responsibilities
    • Collaborate and share technical knowledge with other team members.
    • Monitor technological developments and provide advice and suggestions if applicable.
    • Act as Software department representative in Product development meetings.
    • Able to monitor Project Health and identify slippages or setbacks as soon as possible.
    • Partner effectively with other groups both inside and outside of VIP Communications.
    • Understand business objectives and act accordingly.
    • Contribute to out of hours on-call rotation.
    • Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in object-oriented development with PHP or comparable language. Software Engineer
  • 3 - 5 years in LAMP web development. AJAX and Web 2.0 a plus.
  • Solid programming practices including good design documentation, unit testing, peer code reviews, and a preference for Agile methods
  • Demonstrated experience with relational databases, writing stored procedures, performance tuning, and creating efficient schema design.
  • Strong background in using Linux/Unix command-line tools and shell environment for software development 
  • Demonstrated experience in software version control systems, such as CVS, SVN, Git 
  • Demonstrated real-world experience with software development cycle, and software development methodologies. 
  • Demonstrated experience in creating Technical Specifications, Design Documents, Test Plans, and process Documents 
  • Self directed and capable of working in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent Communication skills; able to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
  • Proven ability to work within a team.
  • Experience in e-commerce and website security a plus
  • Experience with real-world software testing, verification, and validation a plus.
  • Experience in Network programming, VoIP or Telephony a plus

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems, within time/resource constraints
  • Self directed and capable of working in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent Communication skills; able to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
  • Proven ability to work within a team.
