Attention all mindful souls.... We need your energy at our home: The Lamont Street Collective (a Mt. Pleasant co-op house) is looking for an awesome artist/activist/community oriented person to join our home April 15th.
Do you make art (visual, music, performance) in your spare time or all the time? Are you involved in community organizing? Or have you ever lived in a co-op and enjoy sharing a living space with people who are more than just folks you pay rent with? How about family-style dinners, jam sessions, gardening, and bonfires? Then you might want to come live with us at the Lamont Street Collective!
The LSC is a co-operative house that has been dedicated to supporting art, activism and community-building in Mt. Pleasant, DC since 1975. After nearly a decade of fighting to save the house from being evicted, with the support of hundreds, we're working on the right to buy it and make it a permanent community space and affordable home for local artists and activists!
The house is large and beautiful and there is a fantastic backyard with a magnificent magnolia tree, garden plot shared with our neighbors and is perfect for spring and summer. The room that is available is on the third floor and has one large window facing gorgeous, tree-filled Lamont St. The room has hardwood floors, a painted chalkboard, and a white rectangle on the wall useful for using our house projector.
Sadly, one of our current members is heading off to New Orleans (although we're happy for her and her new adventures)! So, we're looking to bring a new person into the house who is as eager and committed in helping us make this dream of buying our home and creating a permanent community space a reality.
We take turns cooking dinner from Sunday through Thursday. We have a monthly house meeting and are looking for housemates who are ready to commit to jumping into planning house events, projects, and fundraising efforts with us (we're all super busy with things outside the collective and have lives/friends outside of the LSC too, so we eagerly welcome any passions and projects that you want to foster in/and outside of the house). There are a lot of exciting things we are planning as well as important responsibilities we have to share.
Our space provides a wealth of opportunity for motivated people to make cool things happen, so if you dream about executing awesome events, shows, or art projects, this might just be the spot for you. Giddy yet? Send us an email and we'll send you our application! Also, check us out on FB @the Lamont Street Collective. We're planning to meet people next Sunday, March 30. Time TBD
Pets are negotiable, but we currently have one very awesome cat.
