Greetings:

Please join us as we discuss the benefits and challenges of hiring an individual with a criminal record.  An expert panel will be on hand to provide information on how to properly interpret a criminal record and to share the benefits, to all, of employing this segment of the population.

Please share throughout your networks!

Thanks so much,
Caryn

The Benefits and Challenges of Hiring a Person with a Criminal Background

Thursday, September 20, 2012
12:30 – 2:30 pm

Montgomery County Pre-Release and Reentry Services
11651 Nebel Street
Rockville, Maryland 20852

Please join us for an informative panel discussion about negligent hiring myths and facts as they relate to hiring individuals with criminal records.

People with criminal records need to be able to work and earn a living, just like the rest of us.  Employers want and need competent, reliable workers. However, they also want to make careful staffing decisions to avoid hiring someone who may put the company at risk of a lawsuit.  While it is relatively rare for an employer to be sued successfully for negligent hiring in Maryland, liability issues are a reality that employers should understand and know how to manage.

The forum will feature presentations from an expert panel:
  • Antonia K. Fasanelli, Executive Director, Homeless Person's Representation Project
  • John Keating, Metropolitan Industries
  • Nadeem Sinnokrot, former resident
  • Amy Solomon, Senior Advisor to the Assistant Attorney General, Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice
  • Art Wallenstein, Director, Montgomery County Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation
Join us as we seek to realistically discuss the fact and fiction of negligent hiring and other theories of employer liability.  Panelists will provide employers with a better understanding of the legal principles and suggest measures that employers can take to hire good workers while minimizing risk.

LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED! PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED!

Please RSVP to Emily Ward no later than Thursday, September 13th.
