Senior PHP Web Developer

This role is located with one of our top clients in downtown Washington, DC (near Dupont Circle Metro) who offers competitive compensation and an excellent benefits package.
In short, this role is best suited for a PHP Developer with a strong desire to learn new approaches and technologies and work collaboratively on cross-functional teams on web and mobile products. This role is a significant coding role with 80% on the server side with some exposure to building front-end interfaces.
This may be a great opportunity for you if… you have 3-5 years' related experience mostly in PHP (or a related server language such as Ruby or Python), enjoy working with a collaborative team and value a dynamic company that appreciates work/life balance.

Responsibilities:
- Lead the architecture and development of apps, modules and tools to support product development
- Provide engineering support (when necessary)
- Create and maintain framework(s) and development environments and contribute to best practices
- Collaborate with the Platform team on back-end improvements and modifications
Qualifications:
- Proficient in back-end (and front-end) development technologies and patterns (LAMP, MVC, etc)
- Highly proficient in PHP is a must. Experience with Ruby or Python a plus.
- Experience with git, best practices and maintaining an organized development environment preferred
- Solid data manipulation and database skills (MySQL / Oracle / SQL Server)
- Front-end experience and openness (Javascript and jQuery with some exposure angular.js or other client frameworks preferred)
- Ability to perform in a multitasking environment

In short, this role is best suited for a flexible PHP developer looking to build solid production code and explore new technologies and frameworks that can help our client now and in the future. While this is a heavy "all stack" coding role this role would also involve working with the technical project manager to collaborate with business owners. The ideal candidate will be passionate about PHP but also have a strong skillset in MySQL (or Oracle) as well as Javascript and related technologies. You will rotate as the "team lead" on various projects as necessary and enjoy mentoring junior developers.

Responsibilities:
- Develop projects and features for internal and external sites including collaboration in requirements definition, prototyping, design, coding, testing and deployment
- Rotate in as team / technical lead as assigned and constantly mentor junior developers through advice, coaching, pair programming and code review
- Provide engineering support (when necessary) to technical operations staff when they are building, deploying, configuring and supporting systems for customers
- Investigate, analyze and make recommendations to management regarding technology improvements, upgrades and modifications
- Analyze system specifications and translate system requirements to task specifications for junior programmers.
- Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years in web development (including 2+ at a senior level ... object-oriented PHP programming preferred ... Ruby a plus)
- In depth knowledge and interest of Javascript( jQuery/AJAX ), HTML5, CSS, Responsive design
- Over eight years of experience in requirement analysis, design, development and implementation in OOD/OOP technologies
- LAMP application programming/integration experience
- Proficiency in source code management practices, preferably Git or GitLab.
- Understands how to consume REST services utilizing JSON, JSONP, and XML.
- 6+ years' experience developing data-driven applications utilizing significant relational database engines as part of the overall application architecture (experience with any or all of the following highly desirable: MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server)
- 8+ years' experience building web-based software systems, utilizing N-tier architectures, dynamic content, highly-scalable approaches, and complex security models/implementations
- Proficiency developing and troubleshooting complex software systems that run in mixed-environments including Linux, Unix and/or Windows
- End-to-end development experience is a must
- Previous experience mentoring junior developers.
