Subject: Capitol Heights: MLK Day of Service Event
To:
Dear Community Leader,
Happy New Year!Last year we came together on the 2012 Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service to reach out to the Capitol Heights community with the 'Community Outreach March'. Through this event we were able to raise awareness about community safety, pray collectively for the community and share valuable social services. On Saturday, January 19, 2013 we will be reaching out to the community in service. Once again we ask as Dr. King asked, "What are you doing for others?" This year we are reaching out to those in need. During the last several years many in our community have been devastated by dwindling economic resources. We have seen a change in the face of the poor. Those who were once working class and middle class are now the 'new' poor. The call of the poor has never been greater in the Capitol Heights community. This year our goal is to feed and provide support to 300+ in the Capitol Heights community. We will be providing a meal to all attendees and providing a care package of personal care products. In support of the outreach effort, we ask each religious institution and/or organization to please reply to this email with any of the following:
- List of names (maximum of 20 persons) who could use our help
- A donation pledge of personal care products (i.e. deodorant, socks, toothbrush, soap, etc.)
- Food assistance pledge
Thank you for your consideration.Mayor Kito JamesTown of Capitol HeightsPhone: (240) 602-7105Fax: (301) 336-8706"One Town, One Vision, One Future"Please consider the environment before printing this email
