[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Looking to live in a dharma/practice oriented home? Room available mid-May in 2 bd/1ba apartment (Adams Morgan/Columbia Heights)

Dear Friends,

I'm looking for someone to join me in my large, lovely 2 bedroom/ 1 bath apartment home in a quiet corner of Adams Morgan. I seek to live and share the space with another dedicated practitioner. Room will open in mid-May, exact date negotiable.

Me:
You would share the rest of the apartment with me, a single man, energy and climate policy wonk. I like sunsets, long walks on the beach where I watch my present experience and gently bringing my awareness back to the present moment after it's gone traveling abroad. In all seriousness, at home I'm usually quiet - often practicing, reading, writing, listening to music, gardening, memorizing or reciting poetry, or napping. Outside the house I'm sometimes volunteering to make the world a wiser, more compassionate, and just place. Socially I can be found at a dharma class, socializing with friends, or biking, or hiking, or camping/backpacking, or at yoga, or live music, and sometimes wine classes or tastings. I love to cook and bake, and to share the produce of that love. I intentionally and imperfectly strive to be welcoming to all.

Creating a Shared Vision of Roomie Nibbana:
I'm curious to learn about you and your vision for dharma shala bordering on nibbanna.
We have a vision of eventually, soon perhaps, sharing our space to host the occasional dharma talk, or day of practice, or similar for supporting the sangha - maybe even a regular sitting group if that seems right.
We create and keep a shared vision of how to keep the home rather clean and reasonably tidy.
We often have interesting and thoughtful conversation, sometimes over a shared meal or bread baking (or pie making...).
Composting reminds us daily of everything in this universe is bound to decay. Storing it in the freezer and taking it out often also keeps the garbage and odors to a minimum.
Because I usually shower at work after biking there, you rarely must wait for the bathroom in the mornings.
When the time is right, we gather our posse for roof deck brunch, or dinner, or a weekend in the woods.
Skillful ability to share thoughts and concerns in a timely, kind, and non-judgmental way means problems are gifted opportunities to soften and go deeper, awaken a little more.

The Apartment:
In a co-op building constructed in 1915
~1300 square feet
Cathedral ceilings, some beams, crown molding
Heart of pine hardwood floors throughout
Large living room w/den(ish)
Very large dining room
Built-in cabinets (leaded glass doors)
Fully-outfitted kitchen - well, okay, there's not yet a dutch oven or sous-vide, but just about anything else you could want for cooking or baking is already waiting for you to enjoy.
Solid hardwood doors
Roof deck with views of the Cathedral, monuments, Catholic U, the wondrous sky and rapturous universe above
Basement storage unit (locked)
Very quiet - unit is on the back side of the building, facing trees. Often it's easy to forget you're in a city
Work/project room with power tools (miter saws, band saw, routers, sanders, etc)
Cloistered courtyard with mulberry tree and some gardening space
Balcony (where I do all of my gardening :)
Laundry (with free washers, dryers, and clothes lines - after the laundry, ecstasy!)

The bedroom:
The bedroom is medium-sized, small closet in the room and another in the hall, and currently partly furnished with a dresser w/mirror, night stand, and window unit A/C.  I can also remove the furniture if you prefer your own.

Amenities:
*Free Laundry in-building
*Secure bike parking in building
* Project room in the basement with
*Wi-Fi/internet included
*Rooftop deck – new furniture ordered and should arrive in time for summer. Deck also features monument views, Cathedral views, and tons of sunshine (well, at least when it's not cloudy during the day).
*Balcony garden, featuring kitchen herbs, baby greens, probably tomatoes and basil this year, too

The Location:
Everything in Adams Morgan is 4 blocks or closer including cafes, restaurants, grocery stores (Harris Teeter is 3 blocks away, Safeway is 40 feet, Yes! Organic and Glen's Garden Market are about 7-10 blocks), live music, Amsterdam Falafel, several yoga studios, gyms, cleaners, etc.
Columbia Heights, Dupont Cir, Logan, Woodley Park are all within about a 15 minute walk or even shorter bus ride.
Quite a few metrobuses (42, 43, H1) and the Woodley Circulator stop directly in front of the building, a slew more (pretty much all the S lines, the H lines, and the 53, 54) are 2 blocks down the street. Woodley Park and Columbia Heights metro stations are both about 12 minutes by foot, quicker by bus.
Rock Creek Park, the Zoo, Meridian Hill Park, and other outdoor spaces are a short walk. Living close to Rock Creek makes it easy to get a little flora-fauna-outdoors fix most days.

Rent:
$1,550/ month, all utilities included.
Available mid-May, exact date negotiable
Short or long term lease

With warmth and metta,
Paul
