[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Meditation Retreat Resources

Dear Sangha,

I recently got back from 10 day retreat at Insight Meditation Society in Massachusetts. It was an immeasurable gift. I wanted to send along information on the abundance of options we have for meditation retreats in the insight tradition.

You know about IMCW retreats and the excellent teachers we have so accessible to us in DC:

Nearby in West Virginia, Bhavana Society is a Theravadan monastery that offers retreats on an entirely Dana (donation) basis. It's in a beautiful forested setting. They're very welcoming and practicing with monastics is its own particular blessing.

Insight Meditation Society is in Barre, Massachusetts. A wise friend once told me, if you can make it to IMS, go to IMS. They've been creating a container for practice for 40 years and they do a wonderful job.

In North Carolina there is Southern Dharma Center

If you'll be in California, go to Spirt Rock http://www.spiritrock.org/

if you'll be in England, go to Gaia House http://gaiahouse.co.uk/

I hope that you have the ability to go on retreat in 2017. There are often scholarship options. May your practice continue and be nourished by the teachings that we are so fortunate to have available to us.

Erin
