Academy of Hope
The contract instructor is responsible for creating a supportive, empowering learning environment for young adult learners (ages 18-24) and delivering quality content area instruction. This person also fills administrative and management roles as necessary.
Classes will be located at the Sasha Bruce office in Ward 8. They will run from 9 am until 2 pm, Tuesdays through Fridays, starting in January 2013 and ending in May 2013.
Student Instruction and Support
§ Teach math or an integrated writing/reading-subjects course to prepare learners to pass the GED.
§ Provide ongoing assessment of individual student progress and adapt curriculum and lesson plans according to the needs of the students.
§ Administer CASAS and the Official Practice GED Test.
§ Collect goal information.
Program Administration
§ Ensure accurate collection of attendance, e.g., contact hours and enrollment status, attendance sign-in sheets.
§ Record, report and give recommendations on student progress, including goals.
§ Work with program staff in preparing for program session, including registration and intake.
§ Be available to meet weekly with academic team to discuss student performance and program operations.
Other Administrative Responsibilities
§ Other duties and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
§ Bachelor degree required. Masters or teacher certification strongly preferred.
§ Significant experience working with disconnected youth.
§ Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
§ Excellent time management and organizational skills.
§ Must be a self-starter and able to multi-task.
§ Strong computer skills, including Excel.
§ Excellent oral and written communication skills.
§ Strong cultural competency skills, including excellent ability to communicate with a diverse population.
