Re: [Downtown Dharma Listserve] 3/24/18 - March for our Lives - Lives and safety are a priority - Ending gun violence in our schools and communities.

Hi Everyone,

Those ideas all sound good.

I too had shared in previous email - don't think it got through to you David - that connecting with Year of Engaged Dharma folks would be a good idea.  I support David moving forward with making that connection.

Also for those new on this email, another thing to consider is carrying and walking under one of the Fierce Compassion banners that Kristin has and has offered to be taken to protests in the past.

Nice to see our group emerging.  Will be very meaningful to walk together in peace.

Look forward to following up. I will be at Sangha on Sunday and will make an announcement and maybe those who are attending we can connect for a few minutes.

Peace,
Nancy

I would be glad to march in silence -- to bring some peace with our activisim.

Also, not sure if others have seen it, but there is this effort to gather children's shoes for a memorial to all those killed in the time since Newtown. They are accepting donations through Sunday at a variety of locations around the DC area.

Would it be OK if I share this thread with other participants in the Year of Engaged Dharma group? I suspect some others might wish to join us for the protest.

Namaste,

David

To David's question, when I joined another meditation group during the women's march the day after Trump's inauguration, we marched in silence.  I don't know if that would suit this group, but it felt just right on that traumatic weekend. I knew there would be a million groups there shouting about their various causes, and I wasn't up for it.  This march is different, but a show of nonviolence in the face of all the guns seems appropriate.  See: Thich Nhat Hanh's peace marches during the Vietnam war.

I'm planning to go as well.

Is there a specifically mindful way to take part in a protest? I wonder if we might identify ourselves as meditators while we are there.
