MOLC Honors Six Workforce Development Graduates MOLC Fall 2014 Workforce Development/Life Skills program participants were recently honored at a graduation ceremony that attracted friends, family, public officials and others in the community. In partnership with Giant Food, MOLC's Workforce Development/Life Skills program uses an evidence-based curriculum to provide employment training for unemployed and/or hard-to-place individuals. Training includes career planning, interpersonal relations, customer service, basic work skills, resume and job application preparation interview preparation and life skills. Eighty-five percent of program participants get a job at Giant Food upon graduating. U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) expressed his appreciation for the MOLC and the graduates, stating, "You will now be able to take advantage of the great opportunities this country has to offer. You did it for yourself, but also for your community." Cardin said that Maryland's federal delegation understands that "we need to have in our communities the tools necessary to reach out and help other people." Cardin said, "In our graduates today, we have people who are going to make a difference." Maryland Senator Ulysses Currie said that program participants made "remarkable progress" and encouraged them to contact him regarding post-secondary education opportunities. Nichelle D. Schoultz, special assistant to U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) said that the senator is "working to make sure that programs like this continue to exist. When one person in our community is helped, we're all helped." Peter Goodson, re-entry coordinator with Prince George's County's One-Stop Center, said that he is excited to see what program participants have accomplished. "I know you will make an impact on the family, community and the nation." Kenneth Maxwell Jr., an MOLC program graduate, reflected on his experience: My name is Kenneth Maxwell Jr. and today I can tell you my name with a new light in my eyes and heart. Today I have a new pride in myself that I didn't have before. I never believed I was a horrible person. I just had a belief that of the world owed me something because I didn't ask to be here.
But coming into the Mission Of Love Charities' Life Skills Program changed everything. One of the best things that stuck with me was our lesson early on in the class about the power of thought. Right thinking begins with the words we say to ourselves, so today I am no longer Inmate Number 296–069. I am no longer feeling sorry for myself. Thank you for all your encouragement, support and love. Fall 2014 graduates are as follows: - Stephanie Coates
- Kenneth Maxwell
- Tonya Moore
- Rhonda Mousseyandi
- Tawanna Thompson

In addition to receiving certificates from MOLC, all graduates received certificates from Senator Cardin and Senator Mikulski. Click here for more pictures of the Workforce Development/Life Skills Graduation. |
