*UPDATE: The Reading Group will NOT be meeting in October or November*

Our "End of Year" December reading group and veg potluck however will still take place on 12/6 at 6pm. December's event will be in Mt Pleasant, hosted by Vince Lampone and facilitated by Kaila Philo. 

We will be discussing Suzuki's classic, Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind. 

As 12/6 gets closer, I will send a reminder invite, but please feel free to sign up in advance here.

*NEW FOR OCTOBER* The Washington Buddhist Vihara has graciously opened their doors to our group as an ongoing location for these events. October will be our soft launch. Pending feedback, we plan to continue to run them monthly on the 3rd Thursdays of each month at this new location. The concept will be the same as in the past, but there will not be a veg potluck. (Big 'thank-you' to community member, Robert Rhyne, for connecting us with the Vihara.)

Downtown Dharma will host its October reading group on Thursday, 10/16, from 7-8:30pm at the Buddhist Vihara Society (5017 16th Street NW, Washington DC 20011).

THEME: Seeing, Feeling and Overcoming Fear

READINGS (required):

• "Fear and Fearlessness: What the Buddhists Teach" by Judy Lief
• "Living In an Age of Fear" by Phillip Moffit 
• "Working With Fear" by Michael Grady 

SUPPLEMENTAL READINGS (optional):

• "Overcoming Fear by Recollecting the Buddha: His Role in Early Buddhist Texts" by Bhikkhu Anālayo 
• "Perception of fear and its role on the path of Buddhist spiritual practice" by Pham Ly Mong Van

If you have any questions about the theme/readings, please contact our facilitator, Kaila Philo (kailaaphilo@gmail.com).

ACTION NEEDED:

• Join us! An RSVP is not required but adding your name will help us gauge numbers and interest, so please sign up if you think you'll attend: RSVP here.
