[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Join Us at Lamont Dharma House: Forgiveness: A Balm for the Heart and World (Amy Smith)

Forgiveness: A Balm for the Heart and World

Forgiveness is essential to our freedom.  While we need not gloss over or ignore the truth of suffering, forgiveness allows us to let go of the pain we carry in order to make room for deep peace and happiness in our lives. Forgiveness is an essential part of metta (loving-kindness) practice that enables the heart to stay open and fosters friendliness toward ourselves and others.  For most of us, forgiveness is a process that entails passing through various stages of sorrow, rage, fear and confusion. As we tap into the pain we carry, forgiveness can become a sweet relief and a balm for the heart.  It's what's needed for the true healing of our relationships with ourselves, others, and our world. In this talk, we'll explore the practice of forgiving ourselves and asking for forgiveness from and extending forgiveness to others.

Join Amy Smith on Thursday, September 28 from 7-8:30 p.m at the Lamont Dharma House for an evening exploring forgiveness practice as a way to soothe our hearts and heal our world.

The session will begin with a period of silent meditation, then the dharma talk followed by a brief time for questions and discussion. If you arrive late please wait to enter until the meditation has ended. Then you can enter in the back door.

These teachings are offered freely, but there is a suggested donation of $10-15 to support the teacher and the space.
