[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Invitation to Informational Q and A on Thai Forest Tradition of Theravada Buddhism

Dear Dhamma Practitioners and Friends,

On Monday, April 6, at 7:00 pm at the regularly scheduled Monday night IMCW Dhamma gathering at St. Mark's Episcopal Church (301 A St SE, Washington, DC 20003), Brandi Walker and Pechpailin Sukna will offer an informational Q & A on practicing meditation in the Thai Forest Tradition.   Pechpailin Sukna is a long-time student of Ajahn Sa-Ngob of Mettakittkun Monastery in Udon Thani, Thailand.  Brandi Walker is a student of Ajahn Geoff at Metta Monastery in California and Ajahn Sa-Ngob of Mettakittikun Monastery in Udon Thani, Thailand.

The evening will begin with a brief meditation and recorded Dhamma talk by Ajahn Geoff (Thanissaro Bhikku).   Afterwards, Brandi and Bem will give a very brief introduction to the Thai Forest Tradition and answer questions on this tradition.

The session will be beneficial for those seeking to move more deeply into their practice, particularly for those longing to practice Buddhism within a Buddhist context and culture.  It is geared for those who wish to move beyond the various modern interpretations of Buddhism and recent retreat-based practices in order to connect with the true Dhamma that the Buddha taught over 2500 years ago, and to study and live with with awakened teachers in a monastic environment, where practitioners have done so since the time of the Buddha.

We will gladly accept questions to address the doubts, concerns, hesitations of those wishing to explore this beautiful tradition, as well as those just eager to know more.

Welcome, all!  Please email sotapannaway@gmail.com if you have any questions about the event.
