Hello Downtown Dharma Community!
I am looking for a flatmate to come share my beautiful, eco-friendly, large apartment with me and my loving dog on June 1. The space has always had a "warm and homey" energy to it, and serves as a nice oasis from the hustle and bustle of the District. Below is my craigslist ad. Since posts now expire 7 days after it was created, I want to make sure the details are available for interested folks who may be taking an email retreat for the weekend :)
Me:
31, female, progressive, considerate, and social. I love to explore the city on my bicycle, attend live shows, dance (Sunday drum circles in Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park), and most other outdoor and cultural activities. I work in the field of conflict resolution, so being able to communicate is important to me. I see conflict as an opportunity to improve a situation, so if there is something you need from me, let's talk about it (and vice versa)! As for my living habits: keep a 9 to 5 with an evening activity of sorts 3-4 days a week, tend to go sleep by 11pm, meditate regularly, keep common areas clean (i.e. the sink isn't filled with dishes to wash), recycle, and work from home once a week.
You:
Ideally, late twenties to mid-thirties male or female, fully-employed, non-smoker, pays bills on time, respectful of common areas and work schedules, enjoys having a dog around, looking to sign a year lease, and is low-drama. Overnight guests are cool, but I am only looking for one roommate. If we become friends, awesome (I love hosting dinner parties, having people over to watch movies, and board game nights) but more importantly - we should get along as roommates and our living habits complement one another's.
The apartment/room:
The apartment is 950 sq ft, bright, airy, and spacious with a large kitchen, full living room, and a sunroom! Your room (unfurnished) is 14" x 10" with a semi-walk-in closet. There is an additional walk-in closet in the hallway we will share. I have some furniture -- couch, ottoman, table + chairs, art, side bar, desk, kitchen stuff, but if you have furniture - great. There are W/Ds in building, 24-hour desk with security, elevator, and timely (friendly) building maintenance. Garage parking is available for an additional fee. Your portion of the rent would be $1175/month (paid on the 1st of the month) plus utilities, which average about $45/month per person (electricity and internet).
Location:
The building is located on a quiet, tree-lined street within steps of Rock Creek Park and the National Zoo (Occasionally, when the windows are open you can hear the lions!). The best of DC's restaurants, bars, shopping and nightlife are extremely accessible. Within a 10-15 minute walk you can be at Tryst, Columbia Heights Metro, DCUSA (Target, Marshalls, WSC), 3 grocery stores and also, the new Trader Joe's. Not up for the walk? Tons of bus lines are just blocks away (Circulator, S1, S2, S4, S9, 42, 43, H1, H2, H4) as are two City Bike stands.
