MOLC's Life Skills Graduation Set for January 24
MOLC is gearing up to graduate 15 students who have completed the fall/winter 2014 Life Skills/Work Readiness Program (LSWRP). The graduation ceremony will be held Friday, January 24, 2014, 10:00 a.m., at MOLC, 6180 Old Central Avenue, Capitol Heights, MD 20743. In partnership with Giant Food, LSWRP is a three-month program aimed at developing participants’ self-esteem, transforming their thinking and behavior, and providing them with essential skills so that they will be successful in the workplace and in life. Among the graduates are Keith Elum and Laura Fleming. Keith, who says he is now seven months alcohol free and three years drug free, was referred to MOLC by his recovery coach at the Prince George's County Health Center. "At one point in my life I had an 'I don't care' attitude," said Keith. Coming to the Mission of Love has been very positive, and has kept me motivated. Being here has been positive." Laura, who has been a stay-at-home mother, learned about MOLC from her sister who works for a nonprofit organization. "Staying at home felt like the walls were closing in on me," said Laura. "I wasn't motivated to do anything. Now, my self-esteem has risen. i feel great. I now get up in the morning and read instead of turning on 'Jerry Springer.' If you don't know where you are going, or you are lost, then the Mission of Love class is for you. It motivates you, helps you with self-esteem and self-discipline. It has done wonders for me. |
