PHP developer - Work towards a common good - Alexandria, VA - Up to 85K

Smith & Keller is seeking a full-time PHP developer to assist with maintaining and enhancing a custom web-based platform as well as building aggregate reports. An ideal candidate has a strong LAMP background with heavy emphasis on SQL design and query development.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities PHP developer:

  • Work with other developers and project managers when assigned to solve new and existing technical challenges
  • Manage development projects from inception to completion autonomously and independently
  • Implement integrations with all manners of backend systems, both proprietary and third party
  • Provide administration tools and documentation for specific projects
  • Design for performance and scalability
  • Deliver accurate estimates, provide regular feedback and consistently meet project deadlines
  • Other duties as assigned PHP developer

Experience and Educational Requirements PHP developer:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software development, information technology, information systems or equivalent work experience
  • Established portfolio of work and code samples

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Ability Requirements PHP developer:

  • Proficiency required (at least three (3) years' experience) with the following:
  • Linux / Apache web servers
  • PHP 5 w/emphasis on object oriented design
  • SQL database design/normalization
  • XHTML/CSS web page layout design
  • Javascript development using Prototype and/or JQuery
  • Web service integration using technologies such as XML, SOAP, REST
  • AJAX application including parsing and rendering XML and JSON
  • Proficiency in the following preferred:
  • MVC programming/template frameworks such as Zend Framework
  • SQL Server 2008
  • Development tools such as Zend Studio, Sublime, NetBeans, Geany
  • Version control systems such as Git or Subversion
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously on assigned projects from inception to completion.
  • Industrious in finding solutions to problems and troubleshooting issues thoroughly prior to escalating up the chain of command for development assistance.
  • Project management experience
  • Good communication in a team environment, collaborative development experience, able to explain complex ideas and concepts to non-technical team members
  • Superb attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
