Classification:                Professional Contingent Employee

Salary:                           Up to $71,000.00/Annual (without benefits)

Position Summary

 

The Family Support Coordinator supports the needs of incoming Military and Civil Service families to Fort Meade through improved access to currently funded resources in the surrounding jurisdictions. The operational vehicle for this support is the Defense Family Initiative (DFI) which brings together family support leaders in 8 counties and 2 cities, and Fort Meade. Since a large portion of the skilled workforce is recruited from outside the region it is vital that families transition into the region seamlessly and be able to maintain a high quality of life, which is the keystone of Fort Meade Mission support.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the RGMC Family Support Coordinator in support of the continued growth at Fort Meade in meeting employee family needs.
  • Provide expertise and leadership in coordinating and implementing the Defense Family Initiative.
  • Identify, document and analyze family needs and determine the availability of those services within the jurisdictions and installation and report the findings.
  • Collaborate and work with regional, state and installation leadership in quality of life related areas such as housing, public education, employment, and child care.
  • Promote and provide family support resource information to meet family needs, through varied and comprehensive communication methods including presentations, print, emails and websites.
  • Develop progress reports as needed and/or requested on any segment of responsibilities.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of principles and techniques for family support and services, and relationship based intervention services for families.
  • Familiarity with and understanding of a wide range of military programs affecting personnel policy, housing management, education, and other family programs.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, communication, and research skills.
  • Ability to lead the Defense Family Initiative, collaborating and bringing together jurisdictions and the installation leadership to improve access to family support resources.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of professional office and computer skills, to include formulating messages, keeping records, communicating with jurisdiction and installation contacts, writing and replying to messages and use of MS Word and Power Point.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment in prioritizing and completing tasks.

Supervisory Responsibilities

 

No supervisory responsibilities.

 

Minimum Required Education/Experience

 

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4 years Administrative/Management experience.

 

Preferred Education/Experience

 

Master's degree (M.A.) or equivalent combination of education and experience. Military background or experience working in military installation environments.
