[Downtown Dharma Sangha Listserv] This Sunday: Problems to be With

Greetings Dear Sangha,

By our families, communities and culture, most of us have been conditioned from a young age to approach life as a series of problems to be solved. What do I need to do in order to keep the good stuff of life (accomplishments, experiences, relationships, affirmations, material belongings, endless health) while avoiding the bad (failure, heartbreak, humiliation, loss, and death)?

Yet the Buddha revealed the ultimate fallacy of such pursuits — how they eventually lead not to relief and joy but instead to more suffering. How might our practice support the development of an entirely different approach to life's difficulties, as problems not to be solved but rather to be with? How might we then come to understand the true nature of such problems, our selves, and the possibility of liberation? What can this orientation teach us about meeting the profound, otherwise overwhelming uncertainties of our times?

I hope you can join us on Sunday from 7 to 8:30pm for the development of our practice, wisdom, and community.
With love and gratitude,
Kristin
