[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Inviting you to a free introduction to Compassion Cultivation Training I'm giving on March 3 (7-8:30 pm)

Hello, fellow community members! I've been away for a couple of months and am really looking forward to seeing everyone again on March 1st!

As some of you know, I teach an 8-week course called Compassion Cultivation Training (CCT courses meet 1x/week for 2 hours). The curriculum was developed at Stanford University by a team of contemplative scholars, clinical psychologists, and researchers.

I'm giving a free 90-minute introduction to the 8-week course on March 3 from 7-8:30 at the Writer's Center in Bethesda (there's paid parking in front and the Center is about 5 blocks from the Bethesda metro stop). Anyone can register for the introduction--you're under no obligation to the take the course.  The full 8-week course involves regular meditation but the 90-minute intro will consist mainly of discussion, some exercises, and time for questions. You can read more about the introduction to CCT and register here: https://cct_intro_writerscenter_spring2020.eventbrite.com

BTW, if any of you are interested in taking the 8-week course (Tuesday evenings, March 17-May 5, at the Writer's Center) but are concerned about the tuition, backchannel me at bravofrance@gmail.com I'm happy to provide a Downtown Dharma discount or waive tuition completely if the cost is a barrier.

Feel free to ask me any questions after our sangha meets on March 1! Meanwhile, if your interest is piqued, perhaps you'll find this January 30th Washington Post article on compassion as the remedy for our times interesting: https://www.washingtonpost.com/religion/2020/01/30/an-angry-america-new-remedy-emerges-compassion/  The Stanford neuroscientist James Doty is quoted several times in the article.

Warmly,
Brandel
