[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Holy Disappointment: This Sunday at Flow

Greetings Dear Sangha,

The behavior of others as well as our own often falls short of our standards. On a larger scale, incomplete strategies, mistakes in our tactics, and messy relationships frustrate our projects to advance a moral cause or generate much-needed social change. The Pali word "Dukkha" is often translated as "suffering" but is better understood as "unsatisfactoriness" and speaks to the way we look to the phenomenal world to provide an enduring happiness that it simply cannot. What if this gap between what we sense ought to be and our manifest experience of the world is so much deeper than mere disappointment? How might we feel supported by framing our efforts as participation, indeed contribution to, something beautiful and necessary, an ideal that is universal, mysterious, and profound? This Sunday at Flow, we'll explore the distance between the ideal and the manifestation, disappointment, as holy striving.

We'll gather in the large room on the top floor at Flow Yoga, but please check in with Kathy on the first floor reception before you continue upstairs. Our meeting space is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible as there is no elevator to reach the top floor.

Please also make every effort to arrive on time (no one will be at the front desk to unlock the door after 6:05 PM). Cushions, back jacks, and folding chairs will be provided. If you are able to come 10 minutes early to help set up, that would be most appreciated.

I hope you can join us!

In Sangha,

Kristin
