[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Sunday @ The Potter's House & Peer Led Sangha Funds

"How did the rose ever open its heart and give to this world all of its beauty? It felt the encouragement of light against its being. Otherwise, we all remain too frightened."

- Hafiz -

Dear friends,

We will be sharing some space and time this Sunday from 6 pm to 7:30 pm at the Potter's House (1658 Columbia Rd NW). This week we will explore some of the ways mindfulness allows us to cultivate compassion and understanding.

We will meet in the community room of this wheelchair accessible venue. Please come 10 minutes early if you would like to help setup. There are plenty of chairs, and feel free to bring your own sitting gear.

Peer Led Sangha Funds

At the end of 2017, the sangha decided to have peer led classes. These are scheduled on the third Sunday of each month. The peer led sangha dana goes to rent, 10% IMCW, and the rest stays in an account for the sangha to use in ways that may help cultivate a more positive experience. We now have close to $300 in the account!

At the last peer led gathering, participants suggested uses for the funds. I have listed them below and in parenthesis, our actions to date:

1) Social gatherings with food {We will have a picnic at Meridian Hill Park on Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 2:30 to 5:30 pm. Please contact me and Ryland (shengzhi1@gmail.com) if you're interested in helping with this.}

2) Advertising {Devin and Kristin are looking into avenues to do this at a low cost (e.g., meet-up, Facebook). Your ideas are welcome.}

3) Microphone (I contacted the manager, and the Potter's House has a microphone we can use free of cost. We can also turn the fan off if it's creating too much noise.)

4) Handouts (Kristin is looking into creating a google file where handouts can be saved and accessed by the sangha.)

If you have other thoughts about the ways we can use the funds or you're interested in leading the peer led sangha, please email me (lindanaini@gmail.com) and Devin (devinmaroney@gmail.com). If we don't have a volunteer two weeks prior to the class, one of the IMCW teachers will lead.

I look forward to practicing with you on Sunday!

In gratitude,

Linda
