Re: [Downtown Dharma Listserve] Readings on Compassion with Borders

Thank you all SO much for your feedback! If you have more suggestions, please keep them coming!

Sam,

Perhaps I should have used the word 'boundaries' rather than 'borders', but I can try to explain it with a link and explanation someone else on this chain forwarded me:

"Here's an article that touches on why being compassionate does not equal not having boundaries. Often, boundaries are absolutely necessary in order to feel safe enough to have compassion for another.

Of course, we may not always be in a situation where we're able to enact the sort of boundaries we'd like. I think it's still important to be clear in ourselves what we want, though, and this makes it more likely."

Some other articles I liked on the subject were these :

I'm interested in exploring my own boundaries more and cultivating how to accept, embrace and trust them.

Also, I liked your breakdown on acceptance, that if we don't respond to negative things with acceptance, it's pretty much a lose-lose situation.

Again, thank you all so much.

Peace,

Natalia

Hey Natalia,

I second the Tara Brach talks, and I also recommend Danielle LaPorte's new podcast. I like her no BS down-to-earthness. The episode "the upside of suffering" seems great for what you're looking for.

Hi Natalia,

I like the Zencast podcast, which mostly features stuff by Gil Fronsdal, a Buddhist teacher based out of San Francisco. The podcast isn't active anymore but you can find it online here: http://www.zencast.org/

Hi all,

I'm wondering if you have any readings/podcasts on compassion with borders and on acceptance/letting go that you'd recommend. Would appreciate any guidance from the community! :)

Happy weekend,

Natalia
