[Downtown Dharma Listserve] This Sunday, Pursing the Path of Devotion

Greetings Dear Community,

Our friend and colleague, Em Morrison, has had a family emergency and is unable to teach as planned on Sunday evening. We wish her and her family all the best!

I'll be there on Sunday to welcome our special guest, Ellen McSweeney who is back in the DC area for just a few weeks. Musician, writer, and licensed therapist, Ellen will be sharing reflections on her experience as a current resident at the Monastic Academy for the Preservation of Life on Earth (MAPLE) in Vermont. Here's a bit from Ellen about what brought her to MAPLE:

Several years ago, I woke up to the seriousness of our planetary crises and felt a calling to live in alignment with these difficult truths. However, as I made various attempts to respond to this calling, I frequently found myself overwhelmed by the immensity of the challenge. I came to recognize that my mind and heart would need significantly more training in order to do work that was truly beneficial. I also knew I couldn't do this work alone. This is why I've chosen to become a resident at MAPLE, which aims to create awakened leaders who can respond to existential risk with wisdom and love. It's a deep privilege for me to be part of this project — totally transforming myself while building a new kind of 21st-century wisdom institution.

Our Sangha will gather from 7-8:30 at Yoga District at 1910 14th St. NW. You can also join us via Zoom. Details for attending in person and online are below.

With love and gratitude,
Kristin

Attending In Person
Real talk: I am coming at the last minute here so I honestly don't know what the current COVID vaccination/mask policy is for IMCW nor Yoga District. So we'll have to stick to the conservative route, status quo. Here's the protocol:

If you would like to come in person, you will need to register with the studio and submit proof of boosted vaccination. You will also need to wear a mask. For everyone's safety and for the viability of this offering, these requirements are not negotiable. You can register through the Yoga District scheduling site, and you can submit proof of vaccination to yogadc@yogadistrict.com   or present it in person at the studio. We ask everyone to register and submit proof of vaccination ahead of time so that we don't have long delays when we all get together.

We also ask that you try to come 10 minutes early – around 6:50. This will give us time to check folks in and acclimate to what is still a new space and process for most of us. Please note that the class is held on the 3rd floor, up two flights of stairs. There are rugs, bolsters, and folding chairs for seating. Please also note that we will be staffing these events ourselves so there will be no one at the desk to admit latecomers. The doors will be closed and locked at 7:10 and no one will be admitted after that.
