Hello all,

As mentioned at the sangha last Sunday evening, I'm going to host the next Buddha brunch in September.  It will be on Sunday, September 15 at 12:00, at my place in Adams Morgan.  You can RSVP directly to me (megkath@gmail.com) and I'll send you the address.

For discussion I picked the topic of kamma-- i.e. "right action" sometimes translated into English as "karma".  Here is a brief reading from the Pali canon for us to discuss.
If you click the link at the bottom of that page, "Kamma & the Ending of Kamma", it takes you to a longer exegesis of the passage and discussion of the concept that might be helpful if you're interested.

Look forward to seeing you soon!

Best wishes for a relaxing and peaceful holiday weekend,
Megan

Hi Janet and friends from All Souls,

Here is the link to the request for teachings on climate change (also reprinted below).  Kristin Barker and I from IMCW, along with sangha members in California and the UK, have been supporting this amazing opportunity to engage meditation teachers in the West on climate.

As with so many other difficult challenges in life, the dharma offers important lessons in how the human heart reacts (and often closes down) in response to a problem as scary as climate change.  And more importantly, the dharma offers a path toward wise action in the face of this crisis.

I've personally walked this road, as despair over climate change crushed me in my work and personal life and led me to the dharma.  I'm so excited that our meditation teachers are considering what role they can play.  If they hear from us, I'm sure they will respond.

The "request for teachings" can be found at the link below, which is housed on a new web platform called One Earth Sangha, which is also a product of the green committee here at IMCW.  Check it out and let me know what you think!

I'll say a few more words about this at All Souls on Sunday, but encourage you to read the request and consider adding your name.

With metta,

Lou

Hi Danya and friends -

Can anyone forward the letter to teachers about asking to share teachings that can be related to climate change? I'd like to send it to someone I met at a work conference from Colorado who wants to forward it to her circle of meditating friends.

Many thanks,
Janet

Just wanted to alert everyone that there will NOT be class this coming Sunday because of Memorial Day and the church will be closed.

Hope you all have a lovely holiday weekend,
