Special Thanks
Large donation of Socks for our Homeless in Need

On December 20, 2017 Mission of Love Charities received 1,208 pairs of socks donated by Kenmoor Middle School's Student Government Association (SGA) which decided to host a sock drive because they wanted to give back to homeless in the area. Two classes in-particular got really involved in the sock drive and had a friendly competition!  Ms. Bedingfield's 8th grade homeroom ended up winning, collecting 360 new socks total.  A close second went to Ms. Prescott's 8th grade class who earned 306 pairs!  In total, Kenmoor students and staff contributed 1,308 new pairs of socks to be donated!  The association kept 100 pairs to give to students in need in their building, however the remaining 1,208 pairs of socks were donated to Mission of Love Charities. We want to give a special thanks to this group of students and also to their Social Studies teacher, Carol Carter and their Professional School Counselor, Johanna Moore as they were the SGA Sponsors who helped oversee this sock drive.  You guys really make the difference!
Our Holiday Toy Shop was Success!
We are happy to report that with the support and sponsorship of G.S Proctor & Associates, Inc., NAI Michael and the Redskins, Mission of Love Charities distributed 325 toys to 148 girls and 131 boys as well as provided turkeys and food bags to 241 low-income families during its Holiday Toy Shop event held on December 21, 2017.  Please click here to see all the pictures from this event.

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Sunday Sangha at Potter's House: First Foundation of Mindfulness - Letting Everything Belong

Greetings Friends,

Our Sangha will gather this Sunday, January 7th from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm in our swell new digs at the Potter's House

This Sunday marks the opening of our tour through one of the most fundamental teachings in our tradition, the Four Foundations of Mindfulness. We begin with mindfulness of the body. Contact with the body through felt sensation is rich and endlessly helpful in supporting the development of our meditation practice. Equally if not more valuable, this practice can provide a deep and authentic sense of well-being in our moment-to-moment experience wherein everything discovered is welcomed.

We will meet in the Community Room behind the bookstore/cafe. Just head straight past the front counter down the hall on either side. Please endeavor to arrive on time.

I look forward to seeing you there!
Kristin

Re: [Downtown Dharma Listserve] Ride to Tara Brach Talk this Wednesday

Lauren, Akiko;

I can drive.  It would be very motivating for me to go there for my first time if there were others sharing the ride to Bethesda (much better for the environment).

I am in the next neighborhood over--Mt. Pleasant--so it should be easy to meet up somewhere close to you Lauren.  Akiko, where are you staying in DC?

Best,

Henry

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone!

We're looking forward to our inaugural gathering at the Potter's House this Sunday, January 7th from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm. We will meet in the Community Room behind the bookstore/cafe. The meeting space is wheelchair accessible.

We thought it would be nice to start the new year with a refuge ceremony, which Linda, Klia and I will co-facilitate. We will also have the regular meditation period and some time for sharing.

There's a new IMCW page for the sangha that includes information on the location, teachers and class schedule (still working on a name). I will also paste the teaching and topic schedule below.

With love,

Devin
