The dance between resistance and nonresistance has been a defining characteristic of my own path through suffering and freedom from suffering. Finding harmony and grace in that dance has been challenging. The peace walk monastics are inspiring in their selfless examples of peaceful resistance. Indeed, extended periods of silence, wise friendship and the rich and shining diversity of all our dharmic expressions both re-invigorate and inspire!
On this Valentine's Day Retreat, we will draw from various traditions —primarily Buddhist— to bring loving awareness to the dynamic interplay between compassionate action and perfect peace of what we will call « surrender ». For me, surrender often takes the form of not just acceptance, but love. That is, a love that is truly equal to what is, beyond attachment.
Luciano Melo and I will accompany you on this daylong retreat at the Washington Buddhist Vihara, 5017 16th Street NW.
