[Downtown Dharma Sangha Listserv] Fwd: IMCW Meet-Up Spot for Walk for Peace

Dearly Beloveds,

If anyone wants to join the events tomorrow and Tuesday to honor the Theravadan Buddhist Monks' 2,300 mile "Walk for Peace" culminating this week in DC and MD, IMCW's Trisha Stoler has been sending updates and this looks to be the most definitive schedule along with plans for how to meet up with other IMCW folks.

I'll share on the DD main Whatsapp group as well in case folks want to do further coordination within Downtown Dharma.

In Sangha,
Kristin

Hi friends,

I hope some of you (and your sangha members) can make it to one of the upcoming Walk for Peace events in DC. It's been a little difficult to get the word out to such a huge group as the IMCW "big group" list…we'll be posting this info on IMCW social media starting Monday so hopefully that helps our larger community. Their final schedule was posted a couple of days ago - From the official website:

* Tuesday, February 10 (Day 108):
– 7:00 AM: Walk begins
– 9:30–10:45 AM: Public Event at Bender Arena (American University)
– Lunch stop: National United Methodist Church (Invitees only)
1:00–2:30 PM: Interfaith Ceremony at Washington National Cathedral
– 2:30 PM: Unity Walk on Embassy Row
– Night Stop: George Washington University (Public Event)

* Wednesday, February 11 (Day 109):
– 9:30 AM: Walk to Peace Monument / Capitol Hill begins
– Lunch stop: St. Mark's Capitol Hill Church (Invitees only)
– 1:30 PM: Walk to Lincoln Memorial begins
2:30–4:00 PM: Peace Gathering and Concluding Ceremony at Lincoln Memorial
– 4:30–7:30 PM: Meditation Session with Venerable Bhikkhu Pannakara at George Washington University Smith Center

If you would like to connect with people from IMCW on Wednesday on the National Mall, we'll be doing our best to gather between the Vietnam Veterans Memorial (the wall) and the "Three Servicemen" statue for the closing ceremony, which starts at 2:30pm. There's a photo of the statue below and a map of the location for reference. If you take Metro to the Foggy Bottom station and head south on 23rd Street to Constitution Avenue, you can enter the National Mall between 21st and 22nd Streets. We'll have a poster board that says IMCW and we'll hold it up as high as we can!

The monks will be walking to the Lincoln Memorial in a procession from St. Mark's Church on Capitol Hill starting at 1:30pm. You may also pick up with them at any point along their route and connect with us at 2:30.

I know some of us are also planning to attend the ceremony on the West Lawn of the National Cathedral on Tuesday. My cell number is 703-585-9364 if you can make it there and would like to connect. I imagine that event will be crowded as well but we shall do our best!

Hope to see you,

Trisha Stotler
