[Downtown Dharma Sangha Listserv] follow-up from Dharma gathering, March 19

Hello friends,

I hope you're enjoying a peaceful and pleasant night. Thanks to all those who joined us on Sunday at Downtown Dharma - and those who could not join. You are all treasures.

This week, we discussed the Five Hindrances, and how to navigate them on and off the cushion. They are (drumroll please): sensual desires, ill will, dullness and drowsiness (also called sloth and torpor), restlessness and remorse, and doubt. If you'd like to follow up, here's the sutta from the Samyutta Nikāya, translated by Bikkhu Bodhi.

As always, all teachings are offered freely, and dana - or gifts of appreciation - are always welcome. You can venmo via @DowntownDharma. Your gifts help to fortify our teachers and our community.

Thanks again for your time and attention. May we gather together in peace and ease again soon.

Shawn

PS! There's still time to RSVP for my Snack n' Sew workshops this weekend, part of Preserves, a solo exhibit of crafted and preserved fruits currently on display at the Corcoran Flagg. Info here.

PPS: If you're coming down to the Foggy Bottom, or you might find yourself there another day, Tues - Sat, 10-5, check out the textile museum's GORGEOUS exhibition of prayer rugs, and the stunning contemporary installation, What is the Color of Divine Light? A beautiful space for some meditation practice :)
