[Downtown Dharma Sangha Listserv] Social Dance as Meditation

Dear Friends,

Do you have a hobby or routine that brings you into the moment? Have you ever felt fully present riding your bike, making a meal, or listening to music?

This Sunday will be experimental and all about bringing mindfulness to activities we love. Together, we'll explore social dancing, specifically swing dancing, as a form of individual and relational meditation.

The evening will include:

  • Being in the body - Finding rhythm and inspiration from music.
  • Listening - Attuning to our bodies, layers in music, and a fellow dancer.
  • Connection - Practicing being present and nonverbal communication.
Note: No dance experience is required :) Our goal is not to learn how to swing dance but instead to tap into dance as a mindfulness practice.

If you're joining in person, please plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early to avoid the check-in line and help us begin on time with ease.

Warmly,
Audrey
