RE: [Downtown Dharma Listserve] Gauging Interest

Hi Devin,

That really does appeal to me, perhaps sometime in the new year.  The 9:30am to 11:00am timeframe really wouldn't work for me given my work schedule.

Great idea and I think you'll get a lot of takers!  Through your own heartfelt message in your dharma talks you have quite a following.  😊

Be well,

Harris

Hi friends,

I'm thinking of leading a group for people interested in bringing the dharma into every aspect of their lives. The group would meet once a week and the format would be like the group interviews on an IMCW retreat, and I would also offer daily practice instructions. The group interviews would be for 75-90 minutes on a weekday morning, probably Thursday or Friday from 9:30-11:00 AM.

I may also add a peer-to-peer element if that seems like a good fit. I'm imagining a 3 month commitment at first and then exploring if people would like to go for longer. It would be by donation, and there would be an expectation of regular attendance.

If this sounds like something you'd be interested in please let me know. I'm also open to suggestions if there's something else that you're looking for to support your practice.

With love,

Devin

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Midday mindfulness breaks on Thursdays 12:30-1pm

Hi sangha friends,

I know there are a number of online meditations throughout the week. Honestly, I've been out of the loop as I pursue training to become a therapist. It's hard to keep track!

But starting December 2, I'll be offering weekly guided meditation 12:30-1pm ET on Zoom (bit.ly/middaymindful). Nothing heavy—just some guided meditation (20 minutes) and optional discussion to serve as a break and reset in the automatic-busy-autopilot-inertia of the day. Hope to see you there!

With warmth,
Jeremy

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] An Evening with Downtown Dharma Sangha: Surrendering to the F.L.O.W. of Life

Downtown-Dharma.jpg
Over the past several months we have explored our individual dharma with topics like: "What's Your Dharma?" and "Under the Bodhi Tree: Sitting Still, Letting Go, and Facing Uncertainty." During our time together we will participate in a heart-centered practice of listening and sharing with one another. We will continue this discussion with the following questions:
What is the FLOW?
What does "surrendering to the FLOW of Life" look like in your life?

"In us, there is a river of feelings, in which every drop of water is a different feeling, and each feeling relies on all the others for its existence. To observe it, we just sit on the bank of the river and identify each feeling as it surfaces, flows by, and disappears."― Thich Nhat Hanh, Peace Is Every Step: The Path of Mindfulness in Everyday Life

Attending In Person-
If you would like to come in person, you will need to register with the studio and submit proof of vaccination. You will also need to wear a mask. For everyone's safety and for the viability of this offering, these requirements are not negotiable. You can register through the Yoga District scheduling site, and you can submit proof of vaccination to yog...@yogadistrict.com or present it in person at the studio. We ask everyone to register and submit proof of vaccination ahead of time so that we don't have long delays when we all get together.
We also ask that you try to come 10 minutes early – around 6:50. This will give us time to check folks in and acclimate to what is still a new space and process for most of us. Please note that the class is held on the 3rd floor, up two flights of stairs. There are rugs, bolsters, and folding chairs for seating. Please also note that we will be staffing these events ourselves so there will be no one at the desk to admit latecomers. The doors will be closed and locked at 7:10 and no one will be admitted after that.
Attending Online-

Start time: Sunday, 7:00 PM US Eastern Time - Click here to join the zoom meeting
Meeting ID: 466 237 117
Passcode: 546447
Join by phone: (646) 876 9923 US (New York).

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Follow up from yesterday's sangha

Hi all,

It was a great pleasure to peer-lead yesterday's sangha. Thanks to everyone who attended for your active and engaged participation! As I mentioned, the session was offered freely, but dana (donations) to support the sangha or IMCW is welcome. Our sangha has a Venmo account that is @downtowndharma and the IMCW is @admin-imcwdc.

Also, if you are interested in reading the topics that we discussed further, below are some resources:

I will be at both and very much looking forward to it!

Hi everyone,

I'm excited about the peer-led retreat we're hosting November 20th and 21st. Here is a draft schedule! You'll notice a couple of comments in the document because a few details are still being hashed out. Thanks to everyone who volunteered to lead a session! The silly theme is "Learning from Delightful Friends" because of the inspiring depth and variety of topics we came up with 😀. It will be so fun to hear from friends about topics they're interested in! An extra hearty thanks to Nick, Vince, and Harris who have volunteered their homes to host parts of the retreat.

If you're planning on attending either Friday or Saturday could you please email me and either Nick/Vince for Saturday or Harris for Sunday (cc'd here) so that we know how many chairs to set up. Thanks in advance!

Peace,

Luke

Hi Friends!

Twice over the past...14 months the Downtown Dharma Sangha has organized hybrid in-person & Zoom weekend retreats. I think I'm speaking for at least some folks beyond myself in saying that these have been incredibly insightful and fun. I've volunteered to organize another one this Fall and I'm reaching out to get a headcount but also to gather information on who might be interested in leading a session. These have been entirely group-organized in the past, so I think the idea is for a group of us to volunteer to lead a 60 minute session throughout the weekend. The possibilities are vast. You can prepare a dharma talk about something meaningful for you, we can draw, we can mindfully toss balls around, we can maybe even share lunch or din din!

If you're interested in participating, could you please fill out the following form and indicate what weekends you're available and if you'd like to host a session? I also included a question about the format you prefer for this retreat (all in person, mixture of Zoom and in person, etc.)

Finally, I would really like some help coordinating this! I  volunteered to coordinate because these have been so fun in the past. But I need help! Once we determine a date the next step will be to build out a schedule of events based on the suggestions people would like to lead. If you'd like to help me please send me an email.

Thank you!
