This Sunday's topic and practice will be an opportunity to explore the four elements of love within the context of sangha by participating in a heart-centered practice of listening and sharing with one another. We will explore and discuss the four elements of true love from True Love by Thich Nhat Hanh. The four elements are as follows:
Maitri means Loving-Kindness or Benevolence
Karuna means compassion. Compassion is not only the desire to ease pain and suffering but the ability to take action to relieve pain and suffering.
Mudita means Joy. If there is no joy in love it is not true love.
Upeksha means equanimity or freedom. In true love you attain freedom. Bringing freedom to the one you love.
During my dharma share, I will explore:
I will explore how these four elements support us in the sangha.
Quote
"The Buddha said this: "The object of your practice should first of all be yourself. Your love for the other, your ability to love another person, depends on your ability to love yourself." If you are not able to take care of yourself if you are not able to accept yourself, how could you accept another person and how could you love him or her?"
