[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Kaira Jewel Lingo and James Baraz Webinar: Mindful Resistance

Dear friends, below is a youtube link to the Mindful Resistance webinar that Parallax Press hosted this past Tuesday with James Baraz of Spirit Rock Retreat Center and myself: https://youtu.be/OvAQ61yu4t0

1000 people registered and 260 attended the webinar. There were very good questions at the end as well!

Enjoy and feel free to share with others!

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Young Adult Sangha - Saturday afternoon

Are you a young adult (19-39 years old) interested in building mindful community? Please join us for the newly formed Young Adult Sangha this Saturday June 17th from 2-4:30pm at the Lamont Dharma House in Mt Pleasant. Details below...

Young Adult Sangha

Are you curious to learn about meditation with a group of young people? Are you a young adult craving a community of meditators and mindfulness practitioners that are going through similar life experiences? Want to try meditating with others?

Beginning the third Saturday in May, the Insight Meditation Community of Washington (IMCW)-affiliated Young Adult Sangha (YAS) will gather in Washington DC at the Lamont Dharma House! Led by three facilitators, the group offers the opportunity to build a community of like-minded spiritual friends in the same time of life. YAS includes a guided meditation, activities to deepen our practice, and the opportunity to build connections through unguided social time at the end with tea and snacks.

YAS will meet every third Saturday from 2:00-4:30 p.m. Summer Dates in 2017: May 20, June 17, July 15, and August 19.

The group is for anyone between 19 and 39 who wants to take part in a conscious, mindful community. The group is open to all young adults and welcomes all people regardless of heritage, sexual orientation, or disability/illness.

The meetings will be held at the Lamont Dharma House, which is located at 1719 Lamont St NW, Washington, DC 20010 in Mt. Pleasant, closest to the Columbia Heights metro station.

If you have any questions, please contact hannah.baumgardner@gmail.com. Looking forward to being with you!

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Re: [IMCW-Engaged-Sangha] Re: IMCW Engaged Sangha - Next potluck, Teach-ins

Thanks, Erin! I will be in Virginia Beach this weekend so unfortunately I won't be able to attend the potluck. However, I encourage everyone to attend! Bring on the hummus and the ranch dip!

For those who are interested... Tonight there will be a vigil for the victims of the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, starting at 7PM at Dupont Circle Fountain.  It was both the deadliest mass shooting by a single shooter and the deadliest incident of violence against LGBT people in United States history. The event is being hosted by the Pride Fund to End Gun Violence, which fights for laws that make our communities safer from guns as well as policies that protect LGBTQ individuals from discrimination and violence.

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all having a good start to the week!

I just wanted to remind everyone about the next Engaged Sangha potluck, which will be this Saturday, June 17th from 5 -8 pm.  If you can come, please bring a vegetarian dish to share.  Also at our last meeting we agreed that wine is fine at these gatherings. So if you want to bring something to drink at well, it can either alcoholic or non, per your preference

Please send me a message to RSVP.  I will send out logistics details in a few days.  I have the names of folks who already RSVPd but if you aren't sure or want to double check, feel free to send me a message.

I look forward to getting together and catching up soon!

Hi Everyone,

We had a wonderful get together at Nancy's last weekend.  A lot of interesting discussion and some delicious food!

I have offered to host the next potluck which will be Saturday, June 17, 5pm - 8pm.  I am in the Takoma DC neighborhood, a short walk from the Takoma station.  Please RSVP if you'd like to respond and I'll send out my address and contact info.

Regarding teach-ins, I had offered to organize one on healthcare/Medicaid. I've made modest progress so far.  I'm wondering if anyone would like to partner with me and help maintain some momentum?

Re: [IMCW-Engaged-Sangha] IMCW Engaged Sangha - Next potluck, Teach-ins

Hi everyone,

I'm sad I could not make it tonight to the Peaceful Gathering at the African American Museum of HIstory and Culture .  Thank you Nancy for your leadership/ call to action for Justice and Love against the hanging of nooses in DC and beyond.

I was poking around the Washington Ethical Society's website and found the "Resistance Manual" an "open-source platform to harness the collective power of the people to continue to make progress in our communities."
I believe this resource can be of great value to the Engaged Sangha!

Here is the link to research being done on Healthcare  and there are several more topic areas we have been discussing.

Hope to see many of you Sunday evening at Downtown Sangha.

Love,
Suzanne
