Hi everyone,I'm excited about the peer-led retreat we're hosting November 20th and 21st. Here is a draft schedule! You'll notice a couple of comments in the document because a few details are still being hashed out. Thanks to everyone who volunteered to lead a session! The silly theme is "Learning from Delightful Friends" because of the inspiring depth and variety of topics we came up with 😀. It will be so fun to hear from friends about topics they're interested in! An extra hearty thanks to Nick, Vince, and Harris who have volunteered their homes to host parts of the retreat. If you're planning on attending either Friday or Saturday could you please email me and either Nick/Vince for Saturday or Harris for Sunday (cc'd here) so that we know how many chairs to set up. Thanks in advance!Attending on Sunday: lukehorvathnd@gmail.com, hrosensweig@hotmail.comDraft Schedule: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MNESNYZpeucp6oy4MqWgQMZaSNbRZ48gI-aMTdtOPdQ/edit?usp=sharingPeace,LukeOn Thu, Sep 30, 2021 at 5:41 PM Luke Horvath <lukehorvathnd@gmail.com> wrote:Hi Friends!Twice over the past...14 months the Downtown Dharma Sangha has organized hybrid in-person & Zoom weekend retreats. I think I'm speaking for at least some folks beyond myself in saying that these have been incredibly insightful and fun. I've volunteered to organize another one this Fall and I'm reaching out to get a headcount but also to gather information on who might be interested in leading a session. These have been entirely group-organized in the past, so I think the idea is for a group of us to volunteer to lead a 60 minute session throughout the weekend. The possibilities are vast. You can prepare a dharma talk about something meaningful for you, we can draw, we can mindfully toss balls around, we can maybe even share lunch or din din!If you're interested in participating, could you please fill out the following form and indicate what weekends you're available and if you'd like to host a session? I also included a question about the format you prefer for this retreat (all in person, mixture of Zoom and in person, etc.)Finally, I would really like some help coordinating this! I volunteered to coordinate because these have been so fun in the past. But I need help! Once we determine a date the next step will be to build out a schedule of events based on the suggestions people would like to lead. If you'd like to help me please send me an email.Thank you!--Luke Horvathhe/him/his
Dear friends,
Anger. Fear. Shame. These patterns can be quite painful. Many of us hope through our practice that they will subside or disappear. What we learn over time is that in order to shift these patterns we must first learn to love them. Students often get confused and frustrated when I give them this instruction. They ask, how do I love anger? How do I love shame? This week I'd like to explore several techniques that enable us to come into loving relationship with these parts of ourselves and, hopefully, to discover a different way of being with them.
We will gather this Sunday, Oct. 31, from 7:00-8:30 PM both in person at the Yoga District studio at 1910 14th St. NW and online. Details for attending in person or online are at the bottom of this email. Please register ahead of time at the Yoga District site if you plan to join in person. If you'll be online, please note the addition of a passcode (546447).
With love,
Devin
Attending In Person
If you would like to come in person, you will need to register with the studio and submit proof of vaccination. You will also need to wear a mask. For everyone's safety and for the viability of this offering, these requirements are not negotiable. You can register through the Yoga District scheduling site, and you can submit proof of vaccination to yogadc@yogadistrict.com or present it in-person at the studio. We ask everyone to register and submit proof of vaccination ahead of time so that we don't have long delays when we all get together.
We also ask that you try to come 10 minutes early – around 6:50. This will give us time to check folks in and acclimate to what is still a new space and process for most of us. Please note that the class is held on the 3rd floor, up two flights of stairs. There are rugs, bolsters and folding chairs for seating. Please also note that we will be staffing these events ourselves so there will be no-one at the desk to admit latecomers. The doors will be closed and locked at 7:10 and no one will be admitted after that.
