But that's not how we see meditation courses promoted in the West. Here, meditation has been revamped as a natural pill that will quieten your mind and make you happier.

[dcphp-dev] Developer Health Survey Results 🎉

Hi DC PHP members,

Back toward the beginning of 2018, I sent out a survey to DC area meetups about developer health and asked people if they would share their thoughts.

My goal was to make a resource website that developers could go to and learn about health issues specifically geared toward them.

After many responses and months of work and research, I'd like to present the results of that survey.

https://fullhealthdeveloper.com/

Full Health Developer is for developers on topics that we care about. The content will be long form, researched, and actionable for any developer wanting to stay physically and mentally healthy.

The first post is on sleep at https://fullhealthdeveloper.com/how-sleep-affects-your-code. I hope you'll check it out!

Anyone who wants to help further can fill out the survey at http://bit.ly/fullhealthdevsurvey.

Your input will shape the kind of content that appear on Full Health Developer in the future. We don't expect to receive any soul gushing, but I can assure you that all responses will be kept in strict confidence.

Regards,

Matt Layman

Python Frederick organizer

P.S. If you could share this survey with your friends or colleagues, that would be amazing!

P.P.S If you want to hear more on this topic live, consider coming to the new Mid-Atlantic Developer Conference (https://www.middevcon.com/) in July. I'll be presenting what I learned there.

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Tomorrow Evening at Potter's Hou

Sorry, I fell asleep while I was typing that subject line ...

Dear Friends,

Warm greetings to all of you. This Sunday at 6:00 pm we will gather again at Potter's House to practice together. We'll then continue in our study of hindrances with a turn toward the hindrance of sleepiness, dullness and disconnection, referred to classically as Sloth and Torpor. Whether on the cushion or in daily life, we'll explore what this state might be pointing us towards and how we can bring forth the energy we need to examine a lack of energy.

We gather in the community room to the right of the register. The space has chairs available. Bring your favorite bench or cushion if you'd like. If you'd like to help set-up, please arrive ten minutes early. The space is wheelchair accessible.

I hope you can join us!

With appreciation,
Kristin

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] Some July 3rd community-building...

A few of us talked about this yesterday and I wanted to follow up with details-- I'll be picnicking with some folks for the Capitol Fourth Concert dress rehearsal tomorrow (Tuesday) evening at - you guessed it - the Capitol. It's much less crowded than the real event, totally free, and a lot of fun. We'll gather around 6:30 pm, and the show starts at 8 pm. If you're able, it would be great to bring some picnic food and/or a blanket (note: the event is alcohol-free), but your presence is more than enough. Feel free to invite others too!

Let me know if you're interested in joining so I can look for you and save enough grass! All are warmly welcome.

-Rachel

[Downtown Dharma Listserve] This Evening at Potter's House

Dear Friends,

Warm greetings to all of you. This Sunday at 6pm we will gather at Potter's House to practice together and then continue in our study of the 5 Hindrances with a deeper dive into aversion. We'll explore subtle forms of resistance that can dramatically shape experience and the great opportunity they present.

We gather in the community room to the right of the register. The space has chairs available. Bring your favorite bench or cushion if you'd like. If you'd like to help set-up, please arrive ten minutes early. The space is wheelchair accessible.

I hope you can join us!

With appreciation,
Kristin
