[Downtown Dharma Sangha Listserv] Re: Authentic Relating & the Buddha Sunday June 26

Hey all - thanks for such a connecting and warm night I wanted to share the five Authentic Relating practices and ways that you can follow and support me
  • Join my in-person gatherings on Sunday morning and Monday evening
  • Subscribe to my substack, I write for psychology today and I'm working on a book on...punctuality
  • Donate: here's the link to Downtown Dharma donation -- I'm in the process of transitioning out of the federal government so any support really helps! ♥️
  • Stay in touch!
ART International's 5 Practices of Authentic Relating (learn more about this great organization here)
  • Welcome Everything - We welcome what arises in ourselves, in others, and in the world
  • Assume Nothing - We notice our assumptions of people and situations, and check them out with others
  • Reveal Your Experience - We let ourselves be seen, known, heard-- and invite others into our worlds
  • Own Your Experience - We take responsibility for whatever we experience, and our impact on others
  • Honor Self / Honor Other - We honor our own needs and wants while also honoring those of others
I'm glad you all chose to be there tonight ( :) )  and also honoring the others who we hope can join next time!
Alex

*Warm* greetings Downtown Dharma Community(☀️!!),

This Sunday June 26 I'll be guiding our lovely community through a mashup of the ancient wisdom of Buddhism with the modern practice of Authentic Relating. I doubt this remix will land on a Spotify playlist anytime soon, but I think it'll be a good time. 🤷

Authentic Relating is a kind of interpersonal meditation. For those who have joined the monthly Insight Dialogue practice, it's similar but with more secular roots and tends to be a bit more playful/edgy. It's a practice that invites us to show up fully—warts and all—and to experience how deeply we're connected to one another.

This feels a bit vulnerable to admit, but I know far less about Buddhism than many of our IMCW teachers and hope to not pretend to know more than I do. But I've found so much joy in both Buddhist teachers and experiencing and facilitating authentic relating practice I can't wait to share!

Be well,

Alex

We are especially interested in engaging DC Buddhists to turn out, and also curious if any folks might be willing to offer accommodations for our team!  Someone with a separate apartment/ inlaw unit/ carriage house/ etc where they could get some solitude and deep rest would be ideal. Buddhist Peace Fellowship: Cultivating Compassionate Action

Beloved sangha,

We're headed to D.C. — and we're calling you in.

From June 29 to July 1, BPF is showing up as part of the Interfaith Action for Palestine — a multi-faith resistance to challenge the violent politics of CUFI (Christians United for Israel), one of the most powerful drivers of imperial violence in the U.S. and globally.

CUFI doesn't just support military occupation. They pour millions into policies that criminalize all of our communities — from Palestinian liberation to queer and trans life, from immigration to reproductive justice.

Whether you're able to show up in person or in spirit, there's a place for you in this sacred action.

📍On the Ground in D.C.?
We're organizing a Buddhist affinity circle rooted in prayer, presence, and people power. If you're joining in person, please make sure to register with us directly so we can welcome you into our Signal group, BPF Contingent Sign-Up

And when registering withInterfaith Action for Palestineplease be sure to indicate that you're connected to Buddhist Peace Fellowship.

⋆˚꩜。 Can't be there in person, but want to support us?
This moment calls for fierce love and presence — and your support helps carry our leaders to the frontlines of sacred resistance in D.C. Your generosity powers everything from lodging, food, childcare support, and materials.

If your heart is moved, please make a gift — and note "IAP" in the memo so we can honor your support for this vital action. Donate and chip in here!

。𖦹°‧Joining Online?

Be part of the Interfaith Action for Palestine's online offerings — including grief rituals, political education, and community spaces led by partners across traditions.

The online program of the 2025 Interfaith Action for Palestine will energetically support the on the ground initiatives in DC.

BPF's online offering — "Buddhists in Solidarity" — is on Monday, June 30 at 12:30pm PT / 3:30pm ET.This virtual gathering led by our dear Kate Johnson and emiko yoshikami. We will offer sacred chants from different Buddhist traditions and meditative prayers to awaken our spirits and radiate protection and love to those in Gaza and beyond.

Register at:interfaithforpalestine.com/online

And just one more thing... we've been nurturing a tender new offering —it's almost ready! We can't wait to share it with you next week. Stay close.

Deep bows,

Daní with Kate

[Downtown Dharma Sangha Listserv] Apologies for Missing Our Class

Dear Sangha,

I just learned this evening, while checking messages before turning in for the evening, that apparently I was scheduled to teach tonight. Whoops and darn.

I'm so sorry for this confusion. Something clearly went wrong in the scheduling process, could easily be on me, but nonetheless I look forward to following up with the organizers up to help make sure things are clearer moving forward.

I love our time together and truly regret that we didn't get to practice and explore the Dharma together. I'm teaching several times in July and look forward to being with you then.

With appreciation for your practice,
Kristin
